I watched It Follows. Shame really, it had one REALLY good scene. The one where she's hiding in her room and her friend wants her to come out, she opens the door and it walks up from behind her. That scene was also in the trailers, everything else was just really meh, and that cop out ending.

Suffered the same as REC, where they showed the final scene in the trailer, where the camera lady gets dragged away. It's like all the horror movies of the last decade had really good premise but poor execution.
Like what >>927802 said
Krampus actually had a really good design, then literally last 15 seconds Shaymalaned it. Movie should have ended when he opened the box. Everything else after that just undercuts the tone and message it was trying to sell and actually raises more questions that poke holes in the plot.

Is it me, or did it seem like all of the promotional material for that movie hyped up the clown doll. Granted, I'll admit that I haven't seen the remake, so maybe it plays a larger role or something, but if is anything like the original, the clown doll is just there for a few spooks and the movie mostly concerns itself with other stuff.

But yeah, commercials, online ads, and I'm pretty sure the image for the Redbox interface all had the clown doll on it. It's like it's saying "Hey, you remember how the original had that really great scare with the clown doll? Well we did more with that, that's worth a price of admission, right?"
It just kind of gave me the further impression that the remake must have been terrible like most remakes are, if they can't present anything good about their movie besides adapting one scene.

It's like the pissing on the wall scene from Adam Sandler's Big Daddy. It was in every trailer, every tv spot, every billboard, every magazine ad. Hell, it's on the cover of the fucking box. If you searched for Big Daddy on google, I'm sure the first thing you'll find is that fucking scene of Adam and that retarded fucking autistic fuckface faggot kid pissing on the wall.

Anyways, I forgot where I was going with this, but yeah, Big Daddy isn't a movie about Adam Sandler pissing on walls with children, but I bet Holloywood would probably make it once they finally run out of old movies to remake.

>>
>>936689
the babadook doesn't mean autism, what?

The mom is obviously a little crazy to begin with, and the movie only comes from her perspective, so the Babadook is really just how she sees the part of herself she's too ashamed to admit exists (the part that fucking despises her son). She doesn't really start to snap until she goes for days without sleep, cooped up in her house while she mourns the anniversary of her husband's death (and at the same time feels guilty about not doing anything for her son's birthday). Lack of sleep causes her to be paranoid and see/hear things (like the babadook as seen in the film), and she has a fear that her murdering of her son is something that is *inevitable*, because "the babadook" is going to take her. >>920349
If anything, the Babadook is how she thinks of her "shadow," and its possession of her means she can let herself go to the lowered inhibition of her shadow.

Is there a movie that just relies on "uncanny valley" to scare? Everything nowadays is blatant gore or jumpscares. I want something that maybe tries not to be scary but ends up being scary due to the details.

Sorry for the lack of WebM's, but here are some movies that are worth your time to watch (that haven't already been mentioned)

The Collector (I'd call it more of a gory thriller than a horror film, but it's worth mentioning)
Cannibal Holocaust
American Psycho
Hellraiser
Saw

Not my words hence the qreentext, but an anon wrote this & made me think about watching IF again (thought the same as you at first)
>"It" is (Again, in my opinion. I have seen many other just as valid interpretations.) a metaphor for the emotional trauma that people, specifically young people who arn't ready for it, who are the victims of sexual abuse experience. Be it full on rape, or being taken advantage of for sex in part due to the pressure puts on young people in our sex-driven society. The film makes a case for both.
>The reason that the story is so focused on Jay while none of the other characters really get much development is because they don't really understand what she's going through internally, again much like rape survivors. You don't really get "it" unless it's happened to you. They're there for her and support her, but at the end of the day don't understand her pain and just have to take her word for it that it's actually there.
>"It" will follow her her entire life, and it will kill her if she let's it get to her. She can try to fill the void with sexual pleasure to buy herself a bit of respite, but eventually it will come back to haunt her. All she can do at the end of the day is live with it, and learn to accept it and try to move on with the help of friends and family.
>Things like the body image issues she has after he encounter with Hugh and the whole "pool getting more and more fucked up every time she fucks" are also hinting towards this theme.
>The reason "It" was passed on the way it was is because sexual abuse is a vicious cycle. Hugh was abused, and in turn went on to abuse Jay, who then went on to use Greg for sex only to leave him out to dry. This left him hurt and emotionally confused afterwords, and eventually "it" got to him and ate him up. She's only able to live it by the end of the film by letting Paul in, and forming a relationship based on trust and understanding so as not to make the same mistake she made with Greg

See >>945701 but i think it does lack more literal stuff going on; ie you can dissect the metaphor of the monster and that other chicks poem shit to death and still have multiple explanations, but the actual on screen literal stuff (the monter stalking, the fucked up time and weather details) is quite lacking, so unless you're trying to read into the film in a pure film-class essay sort of way, there isn't a lot to grab onto if that makes sense.

Whereas in The Thing for instance, you've got the metaphor stuff (distrust, isolation) mixed really well with the literal stuff (the Thing trying to hide and disrupt things, the group fracturing apart) so that they blend together perfectly.

>fuck you i liked it

Oculus was like a good movie and a bad movie spliced together. The flashback scenes were amazing, but the present-day parts were mediocre and oftentimes ridiculous. Even so, I found the whole mirror-controlling-your-reality thing really able get under my skin. Overall it was a very satisfying horror movie. It's unnerving to see exactly how the mirror is messes with the mom's psyche, making her go more and more insane with each subsequent trick it plays on her perception:
>>942557 webm
>>942535 webm

The mirror basically tricks her into thinking her husband is a snide cheating bastard who had conned her into giving up both her youthful beauty and the best years of her life to him, while it simultaneously makes her think she is disgustingly ugly and that her husband hates her for it. Her big c-section scar that she is so sensitive about came from bearing his children, which is partly why she seems to turn on them first.

Not that that movie couldn't have used a dash more Godzilla, you can't actually make a Godzilla movie about Godzilla. Even if the movie was just 1/2 Godzilla it would get old quick. Godzilla movies work because you want more Godzilla, not because they're full of the Godzilla you want.
If the movie had the 40+ total minutes of Godzilla everyone seems to be asking for Godzilla would lose it's marketing and dramatic pull in all of one or two movies at most; it's a giant lizard that fights other giant animals. While cool, it's very one-trick.
