post flipnotes from flipnote hatena / sudomemo.
I'll start by posting a few.
I will be sure to credit the author next time.
I was in a bit of a rush. if anyone would like to know who made any of these flipnotes I will be happy to check for you.
the place where these files are from has a really crappy desktop website. to get the best experience you have to use a nintendo dsi.
and even on the dsi the site is crap.
none of these things come with descriptions of titles. and searching is not possible.
here are a couple of links
http://www.sudomemo.net/ (this is the desktop website for sudomemo)
http://www.sudomemo.net/help/?setup (this is a guide on how to setup your ds to connect to sudomemo)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flipnote_Studio
(this is the wikipedia page for flipnote studio, the program that was used to make all of these animations)
http://pbsds.github.io/Flipnote-Player/
this is a place where you can download the souce + compiled binaries for the Flipnote Player made by pbsds
you can connect to sudomemo and start watching and downloading flipnotes on your computer without the need for a dsi.
Could someone actually tell me the name of this song? I couldn't find it when looking up the lyrics.
>>1127779
Green Day - Holiday
I remember how much I used to love this animation.
I have like 5000 of these animations.
and there is a website that contains hundreds of thousands more. so I probably won't be running out any time soon.
I don't actually know what song this is parodying.
source of the audio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCZ_MC2d-0s
I spent ages writing a script to automatically encode the flipnotes(and even more time trying to get someone elses python script working). and I still need to manually find the flipnote I want to upload, name it input.ppm and then run a script
I want to just drag all of my flipnotes into 1 folder and have them all encode one by one.
I might add that later.
I remember finding the original video on youtube but I can't seem to find it.
>>1127921
Part 2 of this animation.
I would like to know the name of this song.
This one seems to have a problem with it. I have no idea why it is happening.
of the 300+ flipnotes I have played this is the only one with any issues.
>>1127939
>searched the only phrase i could understand in that flipnote
>youtube search: i think i lost my halo
found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGcfs1wiSWc
oh crap. I managed to lose a 16gb sd card with about 4000+ flipnotes on it.
I hope I didn't wipe the sd card. since I can't find a backup on any of my drives. and that would mean I lost weeks worth of downloading flipnotes. I have been feeling pretty much nothing all day. but now I feel scared and uncomfortable. D:
searching for ".ppm" returned 12,962 files
I feel much better now.
(I just realised I have more .ppm files than normal images or music)
I plan on mass encoding all of my flipnote files into webms.
not even gonna bother renaming this one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OidbhenN3o (original animation)
this animation is not a flipnote. but it was made by someone who was very popular on flipnote hatena and on sudomemo.
I told people to post flipnotes. but no one honestly has any flipnotes to upload. I am one of the few people who not only has flipnotes but has a way of encoding them into webms.
I don't want to upload the script yet until I fix it up a bit more and talk to the original creator.
>>1127951
I waded through so much furry animated teen pop/rock music for this.
It was all worth it in the end.
>>1128070
I think I have some flipnotes made by Aardman animations somewhere.
I will look for them and upload them.
>>1127860
here is another one from the same creator.
>>1128119
here is another flipnote from the same creator.
This is an amazing stop motion flipnote made by mrjohn.
>>1128105
Here is yet another animation by Glen-i
I think I will stop posting for a little bit.
I will be back tommorow.
>>1127759
So there's no 3DS site to upload to? Kind of suck that there's no community anymore. I barely bought a key in time just to get the program. Now I think I need to get a sd card to usb connector. I may as well just get a new tablet and use some more powerful animation programs.
I am very new to using ffmpeg so I still don't know the best settings to use when encoding the files.
>>1129141
This is the other one.
mot of these flipnotes were posted on flipnote hatena originally.
people used to download unlocked flipnotes, edit them slightly and then reupload them.
it was bloody rediculous.
and for many years you couldn't actually see who made the original flipnote.
eventually they finally added an orginal flipnote button so you could see what the original flipnote was.
I have no idea who made alot of these stick fight flipnotes originally because they were copied hundreds of times.
>>1129290
come to think of it. flipnote hatena was almost like 4chan except with younger people using it.
this flipnote was animated by a kid to celebrate his 11th birthday.
this is part 1 of a stickfight animated by someone names yoga. one of the few stick fights I know the original creator.
>>1129301
and this is part 2
>>1128033
>nanako
Anon, its from the Hiimdaisy Persona 4 Comic dub by strawberry something or other on youtube.
>>1128139
look, another flipnote by Glen-i.
>>1129341
I think I am going to upload all of this guys flipnotes.
>>1129346
Glen-i was one of my favourite users on the site.
>>1129352
An interesting thing about flipnote hatena was the region locking. if you were in america you could only view american flipnotes. if you were in japan you could only view japanese flipnotes and if you were in pretty much everywhere else. you could only view flipnotes from there.
the region block was based on what dsi you were using. so I could get a japanese dsi, go onto flipnote hatena and download an unlocked flipnote. then edit it so it allows me to reupload it and then reupload it onto another regions server. they used to call this "importing" back on hatena.
>>1127755
who made this one? that webm gave me feels
>tfw the undertale community is fucking cancerous and you dont want to be associated with them
>>1129390
it was made by NovaYA.
you can watch more flipnotes by them here:
http://www.sudomemo.net/user/5D7063601E15A042@DSi
I didn't know I could have nostalgia for something so recent
>>1127755
That's obviously recent, but I thought flipnote service was dead everywhere, even in Japan? Did someone make this and export it as a video somewhere else or something?
Now it is time to talk about the end of flipnote hatena.
I can't remember when they announced it was going to be shut down. I know that they warned us many months in advance.
once I heard it was going to be shut down I started downloading hundreds of flipnotes.
while alot of the website is shit. you have got to think about it like this.
there were atleast 100000 unique flipnotes on the website. averaging about 20 or so seconds long each. meaning that about 555 hours of animation that was lost once the website got shut down. some people reuploaded their flipnotes to youtube. but most of them are lost forever. I am pretty sure half the flipnotes I have posted in this thread were completely lost until I uploaded them. although I didn't check.
>>1129407
flipnote hatena got shutdown on May 31 2013.
but sudomemo opened up in 2015. using https://github.com/pbsds/hatena-server
you can connect to it through the flipnote studio app just like you could flipnote hatena. the way it does this is by using a proxy.
I still can't believe it got shut down 3 years ago. because sometimes I have a memory of flipnote hatena and I think to myself "how the hell was the 3 years ago?" because it feels very recent.
This shit is exactly as cringe-inducing as I remember.
>>1129436
What's the song's name pls ?
>>1129443
circus-p - circus monster:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mizIaPGNJaE
although the audio in the flipnote sounds a bit off so it could be a different version of the song. you might have to look around a bit.
I feel bad that I don't own a 3DS so I can't get the new flipnote 3D. although if I remember correctly nintendo made it difficult to get it.
they should make it come with all new firmware updates. and allow everybody to use the new flipnote hatena for free. but nintendo would never do that.
I hope I can make this become a regular thread on /wsg/ once I finish the batch script that converts these and I get permission from the original creator of the ppm decoder I will upload my ppm decoder. I have set it up so it should only require a regular windows install to run it.
it is 100mb in file size but that is only because it comes with ffmpeg and sox. just in case you don't have them already downloaded.
>>1127907

>>1129494
what does that mean?
I just realised that the black and white colours look perfect and sharp. but blue and red look blurry. I need to figure out how to fix that.
>>1129295
this is another flipnote from the same creator
Is anyone downloading any of these or enjoying them?
I am working on a .ppm downloader so I can mass download flipnotes off of sudomemo.

>tfw used to watch stick figure fights on my dsi
Still can't beleve its gone
I regret not downloading more non-furry flipnotes.
because I remember so many great stop motion animations and non-music video flipnotes BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY OF THEM. atleast once I get the sudomemo downloader working. I will be purchasing a seperate hard drive and just going nuts by downloading tens of thousands of flipnotes. then mass converting them into webm so I can go through them later and upload all the good ones to 4chan.
>>1127750
Is that Michael Rosen?
I found a new bug in my script. that means the audio of certain flipnotes wont play at the correct speed. I will fix that soon though.
my script can now download the first page of flipnotes from pretty much any creator on sudomemo.
now onto multipage support.
Part 1 of 2
a little bit of a story about this one. the creator wanted to make more than 2 of these. but his dsi kept turning itself off every 2 minutes so he couldn't finish any more flipnotes. (I also had this problem with my dsi but not nearly as badly as him) he also isn't the only person to have their dsi's break. heaps of other flipnote creators report having the L and R buttons on their dsi's not functioning. I have a used original ds that is still working perfectly.
>>1131104
anyway.
my downloader script now asks for you to give it a url to a creators page on sudomemo. now to make it save it into a folder based on the name of the artist
this is a pretty cool flipnote. I actually found this one linked on a forum so I copied down the command for it. and then entered it on my dsi to download it.... literally the only thing I regret is doing such a terrible job "archiving" the flipnotes from flipnote hatena. if I had of been doing it now I would have done it much much better... It wont be happening again.
I am going to download every flipnote I can off of sudomemo. I probably won't be able to do all of them since there are over 1 million flipnotes totalling nearly a terabyte of data. but I will try to get most of them.
and I will also encode all of them into webms for uploading to 4chan. I might even make my own website to host them. but that is for another time. I plan to do this over quite a long time. so for now I will just keep uploading flipnotes to 4chan and working on my scripts.
I am almost done with my batch converting script.
then I will get back to working on my downloading script.
>>1131518
holy shit memories I remember this music video
>>1131693
I spent so many hours looking for that flipnote many years ago. I remembered watching it and one day decided to find it.
considering flipnote hatena had no proper search features and literally millions of flipnotes.
I have no idea how I managed to find it. I swear it was a 1 in a million chance that I managed to find this guys flipnotes.
you know that feeling when you are watching a movie for the first time.
and it makes you feel embarassed or uncomfortable?
but once you have seen it once you are fine?
because you know exactly what to expect from the film.
I am in the middle of watching school of rock
and I just don't want to continue watching.
but I must do it because I like jack black

I woke up at 6pm this morning so I haven't had to much time to get things done today. BUT.
I have been doing a bit more scouting around and may have found a better way of retrieving information from sudomemo. If everything goes to plan I should be able to make a downloader that has heaps of features. such as the ability to download entire users, channels, chatrooms, comments, etc. from the server.
this is going to require a lot of work from me and I might not even be able to do it.
but I will atleast try.
Nice thread man, I miss flipnote
Do you have any Darkrose40 or Deadhead by any chance? They were not very popular even back then, but if you had some I would greatly appreciate it.

If they were american I definately wont have them because of the stupid region block thing. eventually I am going to run out of old flipnotes and have to upload new flipnotes from sudomemo.
I do kind of wish I downloaded more flipnotes back when it was still around.

I'm going to start posting a bit more frequently most of these are going to come from sudomemo. I might even start linking to the sudomemo pages.
>>1138713
How do you save them from Sudomemo? When I tried it just downloaded it as a gif
>>1139983
I am downloading the .ppm files using my nintendo dsi and converting them with my computer. I was working on a simple bit of javascript that would add a .ppm download button to sudomemo but I am putting that on hold until I learn more javascript.
I already have a working converter script though. it is self contained and shouldn't require anything to get it running. I am thinking of uploading it. although I am still not too happy with it. it is missing one feature I really want and still has one bug.
>>1140246
also note. I am not trying to take credit for the main part of the script all credit goes to pbsds and his PPM.py script that is the main thing I used. I only wrote a script that would automatically decode and encode .ppm files. the script that actually does the decoding is PPM.py and the program that does the encoding is ffmpeg so I take no credit for those amazing pieces of software.
you can find PPM.py and a few other over at this link (https://github.com/pbsds/Hatenatools) note if you have a 64 bit installation of python it will be a real pain getting this to decode the frames since one of the modules this needs isn't available in 64 bit.
Has anyone saved any of Boss's notes? Those were the best on american servers. Fred was really good, made his own original music. Ace of Spades would transfer japanese notes to the american servers.
>>1127750
This thread made me really happy for some reason.
I remember going on flipnote as a teenager, posting shitty notes... I remember all the reposts and little kids and furries and stick figure fights. I'm going through a real nostalgia trip, but a lot of these posted here sadly aren't ones I remember from way back.
By the way, is there any way I can find my old flipnotes? I'd love to see them, if they were backed up on sudomemo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX6HZTJt6JM
this is one of the most popular ones I made.
>>1140319
sadly there is no existing back up. I believe you can get access to your old flipnotes if you buy a 3ds and get the new flipnote 3D you would need to give your username and password and I am not even sure if it is still available. the reason why I don't have alot of flipnotes you would rremember is because I forgot to save alot of good flipnotes that or I just haven't uploaded the ones you like yet. you also might be from america meaning that I wouldn't have any american flipnotes since I am an australian. I am happy that people remember flipnote and am dissapointed I wont be able to please everyone just because I am an idiot who forgot to save flipnotes.
I got a purple star once. IIRC I had about 5 million stars. I put too much time into the social aspect of the site, I really enjoyed the little chatrooms.
>>1140339
I see. It's too bad, I really wanted to look back on my old flipnotes, even though they were admittedly terrible. I never saved anything from back then, and my damn DSi broke. Apparently the L and R buttons breaking was a common issue.

there is something I absolutely love about this artist despite the how messy the animation looks most of the time. I feel like they will be amazing animators in the future.
I'd just like to thank you guys for taking the effort to back up all this stuff. There's a lot of great art worth preserving from flipnote and the fact that Nintendo is totally neglecting it just makes me angry
>>1142225
honestly I should have put more effort into this. I only downloaded about 1000 flipnotes from the original website. I going to upload the script I am using to decode flipnotes so more than 1 person can upload to this thread.

I am currently uploaded a script people can use to convert .ppm files into webms.
if you have any trouble I reccomend putting it into the root of your C:\ drive just because it might have problems with file directories that contain spaces.
>>1140246
tfw some autistic Sonic fan is 100x better at animating than you are
a.cuntflaps.me/wxqzff.zip
extract this anywhere you want then copy any .ppm file into the main folder and name it input.ppm then run the ppm.webm script and it should convert it into a 4chan compatible webm.

the song is Crazy Night by Vocaloid 8

>>1144800
Ideally it would've been better to find the source, since I would've love to check out his other works, I was wondering if there was a HQ version out there somewhere before I add the audio myself as a last resort.
Thanks for helping me out though anon. I'll ask my Japanese friend on what this might mean so I can have a better chance on finding out who he is.

those flipnotes look perfectly find to me I don't know what you think is wrong with them.
unless it is the animation cutting out. that is completely normal. heaps of people don't finish animations or sometimes they just run out of space for animation and they leave the music playing for the enjoyment o the listener.
this flipnote relies on sound effects after the first 4 seconds.
since I haven't figured out how to do those yet this flipnote can't be decoded properly
Thank you guys so much for this thread, you have no idea how much flipnote meant to me. From age 9-12 I did nothing but animate and participate in the flipnote community, I made many friends and was introduced to many subcultures on the internet. Once I heard it was getting shut down, I cried because they were shutting down such a big part of my life at the time. I know most of these animations look like uber-cringe, cancerous shit but to me it reminds me of what it was like to be a kid on the verge of growing up and letting go of the things I held dear during my early years. Going through this thread and watching all the new and classic flipnotes really gave me a blast of nostalgia to the face. If anyone is still lurking in this thread and you were active in the community, I just want to say thank you.
>>1158900
I have lost a bit of interest in flipnotes. I was planning on making an archive of sudomemo but realised it would be too difficult. thinking about it makes me uncomfortable and I have no idea why. I will still be occasionally uploading flipnotes to this thread. but I feel like I have had enough. I did love hatena growing up. I had to crack the parental lock password on my dsi to get access to the internet just so I could use it.

most importantly I learnt that batch is absolutely horrible for scripting and to never use it again.

I am probably never going to do anything related to flipnote again since the idea of continuing makes me feel uncomfortable. but I will always remember the fun I had when I discovered I could upload full flipnotes into the chat rooms on sudomemo by sending a POST request containing the file to http://cdn.sudomemo.net/ds/v2-us/chatrooms/1.reply

Using flipnotes as chat entries is pretty neat solution actually. The original Flipnote Hatena did it that way too, although it probably required some additional authentication beforehand.
This thread has had the effect of making me much less nostalgic for Flipnote, realizing in retrospect what a shithole of furry faggotry it really was.
Does anybody have the one with the "Entropy" music and the goat looking girl with a hoodie? I saw on /f/ a while ago and I didn't save it.

Song?
This thread constantly hits me with nostalgia but completely reassures me that I would never enjoy the flipnote community today.
Some of these animators possess wonderful talents and do indeed have products to show, but are so diluted by the constant assault of awful music or shitty overused memes.
It doesn't help that just about everything with stunning quality was conceived when the artist was in their preteen edgy phase.
I am probably going to stop posting and let this thread die because I am currently on a search for episodes of Bunny Maloney. and I probably wont be doing anything else for the next week.
