Not going to lie, it's a clever way to fight an enemy like the Syrian army. Hell, maybe even smaller outfits of a Western Nation.

To see in real time what your enemy is doing is really an advantage. They might be sand nigs who deserve nothing but hell fire, but they do know how to fight their neighbors.

Then again, considering they are Arab that is not saying much

fun fact: at the end of the war the germans created their own version of kamikaze-pilots. Instead of explosives they equipped fighter planes with reinforced wings and send them up with barely any ammo (to make the plane lighter) to ram flying fortresses and jump then down with parachutes.
>>
>>1092264
this looks like a waste of ammunition.

any trained shot with a good rifle could have offed these 3 targets without terraforming the place.
>>
>>1094839
iirc ISIS had just taken that area and were live-streaming propaganda from that hill.
>>
>>1094836
Don't think many, if any Rammjäger were actually ever used, though. At some point the Luftwaffe just kind of stopped being relevant.
There was also design being done on a piloted V1. On paper, the pilot was supposed to eject before impact, but since the cockpit was right in front of the jet engine intake, chances of actually surviving that were basically nil. I don't think any of those ever flew, either.

They never capture the earth shattering crashing sound correctly.
>>
>>1077784
Brings me back to the 'explosion adaptation' we did in military.

Our platoon would lie on the ground stomachs down, with ear protection, heads towards a giant tall sandbox in which there was placed dynamite on top. They blew three times and last one being 5kg. The most tense and frightening moments in my life. The shock lifts you up from the ground, it's so loud you kinda can't hear it but your eardrums sure will feel it, beats out your breath, resets your consciousness as if you wake up from the most intense dream ever, heart beats like a motherfucker in adrenaline pace for hours afterwards.

OC!!! (My first WebM, I'm proud)

Freshly released video today. ISIS fighter shot in neck while falling back. Collapses in front of buddy, who is reloading mags. His buddy uses his dying friend as cover. Blood is visible, and you can hear the ISIS fighter gurgling, and see his legs stiffen up as he dies. The harsh reality of war, despite what side you're on.

das a westland lynx mayne, great british helicopter that is the fastest in the world

british engineering is always going to be better than any french shit, don't insult us like that

My favourite war video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAkzrxN5Jn0

also a webm of an a10 actually hitting the right targets
>>
>>1095505
Is being able to do any of that actually useful? I mean it's a good demonstration of the engineering that's gone into it, but none of those moves are going to help it dodge anything that is likely to be fired at a helicopter today, right?
>>

I don't understand how their suicide trucks are so effective. Yes they're armoured, but they're (relatively) slow as fuck, BECAUSE they're armoured you know exactly what it is and where it's coming from, and the driver can barely see because the window is mostly covered.

Anti-armour weapons aren't exactly rare nowadays and I don't mean full RPG/rocket style weapons either, I mean heavy rifles to take the engine or driver. Or just dig some 2-3ft trenches around where you don't want the truck to go.

There must be a reason they don't do this because I can't believe that no one has thought of it, but I don't know why.
>>
>>1104078
RPGs are fired at helis all the time, and they have ballistic trajectories so yeah it'd be good for dodging them

Yes, they were Reuters reporters (and this clip didn't even show the worst parts). The video was one of Wikileaks first large scale public appearances. The video was released under the title "Collateral Murder", with a website of the same name at the time.

That's because it's all run by the americans and the Americans have already proved themselves with Hollywood

Never in the history of mankind has there been a terrorist group that made professional quality, edited videos of themselves - even Osama didn't do that and he had the money and contacts to do it if he wanted.

It seems very fishy, especially with all the camera cuts just before an execution/while someone is being executed.

And also the CIA already have a rep for funding and supporting terror groups around the world, it's not very far fetched to think they are behind ISIS too

It supercools the thermal sensor, so that the missile can tell the difference between the thing it's trying to kill and the background.

It's why thermal seeking weapons don't instantly fly towards the sun

And this is why we say "BACKBLAST AREA CLEAR". first 5 ft behind those is lethal and you can still be injured from the shockwave as far as 100 feet back

You do know the sun produces heat right? One of the tips for evading early heat seeking missiles was to fly into the sun, hoping the missile would start tracking that big ball of nuclear fire instead of your engine.

13D which is fire direction control. Here is the basic chain of events to call artillery fire:

>Infantry radios 9 line Call For Fire
>Fire gets approved by HQ, send mission to our computers
>13D (me) receives mission on computer, my chief verifies its safe to fire, Fire Officer verifies its within fire zone, approves fire
>send mission to gunline
>paladin shoots 1 155mm round to target (a good crew will shoot within 50 seconds of receiving mission, their duties include moving rounds into hydraulic, adding the charge, and pulling the lanyard)
>RTO (Radio Transmission Operator) in FDC tent radios the forward observer that shot in inbound (so they know to pay attention)
>RTO looks at his watch for the calculated landing time of the round and radios the observer a few seconds earlier, all he needs to say is "splash"
>observer confirms round is on target, radios to FDC to commence FFE (Fire for Effect)
>gunline loads guns and unleashes the full fury of the King of Battle.
>steel rain (shrapnel) kills everything within 50m radius of target zone, injury within 100m
>>
>>1107191
this all happens in about 3 minutes if everyone knows their job well and there are no complications.
>>
>>1107191
So you are basically an office worker kind of? Not ripping on you, just saying, you probably aren't in the field for your job?

I am in the UK and the british equivalents are 'Special Gunfire Observer' and 'Gunfire Observer', I think the first is naval fire and the second is artillery.

I was actually seriously considering special gunfire observing but I heard the long range patrols fuck your knees. Is this just a meme or do ground troops actually get fucked up knees often? Is there a way to avoid your knees dying? Because I want to join the military but also enjoy using my legs
>>
>>1107097
Well yeah. What I don't is see how cooling the sensor is supposed to help with that.
>>
>>1107191

The colder a sensor is, the better it can see heat.

Imagine you're trying to look at a lamp in the distance in the day, then do the same thing at night when all the other light is removed. It's along those lines.
>>
>>1107240
How does that help make it NOT pick up the sun?
>>
>>1107246
Because it can tell what's hotter and what isn't.

Jesus this is nowhere near as difficult as you're making it.
>>
>>1107200
No offense taken, thats a two part answer for it. The HQ of FDC is pretty far back, but the field FDC which is what I do is right next to the gun lines, this is so that if all lines of communication fail we can have someone run to the gun line with our range, deflection, and arc calculations to input manually. We have computers that we work on to send fire missions to the gun line in an armored vehicle. In a field artillery unit there are 3 types of vehicles on the gun line: The Paladin, which is a mobile howitzer cannon, the CAT, which holds the artillery ammunition which resupplies the paladins, and the FDC track vehicle, which usually has a tent set up next to it. The whole unit is "in the action" so to speak, and just because FDC's main job is to be the brains behind the braun, occasionally we get to go shoot artillery rounds as long as its cool with the gun chief.
>>
>>1107220
It's our responsibility to hit the target with an accuracy of within 30 meters or less. Though this is negligible since everything within 100m is destroyed, we still strive for the best accuracy as possible.
>>
>>1105491

That sounds pretty cool, I think it would be a nice job. All the calculations and stuff you do, are you taught from the basics? or do they expect you to have a good mathematics education before you enter the military?

Do you think the job is 'worth the money'? Like, they don't overwork you for your pay.
>>
>>1107250
I'm still not seeing it. Eliminating the glow of its own components at like 300K shouldn't do much about the sun's, what, 5000K. And boosting the semiconductor's gain through whateverthefuck effect should boost the sun right along with it, shouldn't it?
Is this about finding a part of the IR spectrum where your target is actually brighter than the sun?

Its based on your ASVAB score when you join. Thats how we limit jobs in the military, and its basically the SAT or ACT of the army. You get taught how to calculate and map manually first, it involves some low level calculus which i thought was pretty cool because all I did in high school was geometry.

After you learn the manual gunnery, you move over to the automated system. You get a security clearance because the data on the computers are secret level classified.

>worth the money
It's well known that the US military is underpaid and weapon research is overfunded. I have pride for my job and I get to blow stuff up while feeling like the big cock among the hen house because I'm the 'smart guy' of the unit.

Some days we're over worked, like 2 hours of sleep shooting night missions. Other days we have nothing to do and we end up dicking around on our phones. It varies.
