Gondola does what a Gondola does, he stands, watches, observes and learns. Gondolas do what comes naturally, watching. It's all they can do for such a creature that can not speak, but it has no reason to speak for it just watches. Standing tall and humble, watching the kids play from a park bench, watching the birds from a grassy hill to the miracle of birth. Each feeling what only a gondola can feel from just watching, peace. Peace is what they only feel and with each person they observe or take interest upon, they too will feel the peace of a gondola. A peace that the world would one day know from take a different look at the way of life from watching beauty in all things. Something a Gondola knows all to well. The watchful eye of a gondola is something to celebrate.

because its such a specific aesthetic that's zeroed in on providing totally different atmospheres in quick 2-3 minute bursts. each gondola video is a microcosm of what the creator was feeling at the time of its creation, in a way gondolas are avatars into a persons inner most appreciation of the interaction between sound and visuals.
to "win" at the gondola you must create something that is utterly unpretentious and representitive of what you want the viewer to feel while watching it. they're deceptively personal.
gondola threads are a refreshing oasis from the culture of competitive cynicism that 4chan fosters in which posters bury their content under so many layers of irony nothing is real.
gondolas in their simplicity have somehow isolated themselves from the hate machine and seem to be attracting a following rather quickly because of this.
Well i'm hooked now. I'll be coming back for my fix sometime soon.

My question would be if these aren't under a few layers of irony in themselves. As silly as it may sound, consider showing them to someone else. How would you explain them? How would you justify their existence? They're a two legged bear thing being injected into sombre scenes with no words, context, or explanation.
The question is whether that irony makes them more effective or not. I find it does, personally. I think the fact that they're so hard to explain is what makes the way they're inserted into scenes more thoughtful.

ideally it shouldn't have to be explained to work. a good gondola evokes an emotion, feeling or atmosphere so concisely that the viewer intuitively understands the context of the character and whatever setting it happens to be in. a good gondola scene immerses the viewer almost instantly in its internal logic. at least that was the first reaction i had to the initial gondolas i had seen which led me to me into making gondolas.
people tend to have strong reactions to something that has a unexplained internal logic that simply seems to exist in spite of any context.
works like the paintings of zdzislaw beksinski, skeleton jelly, Prophet (2012 image comic), wayne barlowe's work, dark souls etc. are good examples of this.
my preference for this type of narrative is what i found so appealing about gondola.
