I've got to say, I was a little disappointed by Starkiller Base's existence. It seems like it was just an attempt by the filmmakers to try to make something more dangerous and scary than the previous enemy (Death Star), which IMO is not the way to do things. I dislike constant escalation of villains and enemies as a way of progressing a plot; it results in stuff eventually ending up as ridiculously overpowered DBZ/40K nonsense.
At least the older SW stuff sorta~ made sense within the context of the universe. (Not including EU stuff) In the original series, a station the size of a small moon was able to be created by a galactic empire spanning thousands of planets at the height of its power, which makes sense if you think about the massive amounts of materials/labor/design needed to create something of that magnitude. That volume probably contained more people than our planet's entire population, given that not just the surface was populated and the entire structure was essentially "urban". Yet in VII, the scattered dis-unified remnants of an empire are somehow able to create a weapon several times as large that is able to shoot through hyperspace to destroy entire star systems from anywhere in the galaxy.
I enjoyed the movie, it just irked me a little. There's my 2 cents. I'm not sure why I'm writing this post.

My biggest and possibly only complaint about Ep VII is Rey.
It seems they couldn't decide whether to make her an inexperienced everywoman thrown into the chaos that the audience can relate to, or an experienced prodigy who can mop the floor with all the original cast and doesn't need anyone's help for anything. Then they just said "fuck it, let's do both!" resulting in a character who at one moment is all "Oh no, I'm so confused and at a disadvantage, what a great time for a side character or antagonist to explain things to me / the audience!" then the next moment learning the Jedi mind trick in 5 minutes (without prior knowledge of the ability's existence), or using force powers and holding a lightsaber for the first time, yet being so instantly adept at both that she defeats someone who has trained in these techniques from childhood.

One of only two possible things will happen:
A) Rey keeps getting more powerful, especially after training with master Luke. She defeats (or befriends) Kylo in the second movie, then defeats Snoke (and possibly is forced to kill Kylo) in the third movie. She is the greatest hero of all time, for all time. She retires as a witty and snarky desert scavenger more well-off and wealthy than she started, and knows she has godlike powers to get whatever she wants if someone tries to fuck with her, the final scene is her demonstrating this by using the force to fuck with someone giving her a hard time.
B) Rey keeps getting more powerful, but is defeated by either Kylo or Snoke in the third movie. If by Kylo, it's because Snoke forced him to, and he then turns on Snoke and defeats him, becoming mortally wounded but lives just long enough to spread the legend of Rey, who becomes a post-humous martyr and saint figure, possibly getting resurrected through force magic. If by Snoke, it's because she was so weakened after her final battle with Kylo that Snoke manages to just barely defeat her, which then also makes her a martyr and causes the entire rebellion to get their shit together and storm Snoke's base, defeating him for good. Either way, Ren's death becomes the saddest thing to ever happen int he SW universe, and she becomes bigger than jesus.
They made Rey as a strong female character and positive role model for girls. If she does anything blatantly negative or even morally suspect, it would cause people to actually consider their thoughts and biases toward progressive archetypes, leaving them confused without a cookie-cutter good-guy/bad-guy dynamic to center their opinions around, and that would hurt sales/reviews.

I still have no problem with Rey beating Kylo Ren. It seems the whole point of the character is that he's a tryhard wannabe who's actually not that good at anything, really. He can't fence, he's not smart, he can't even be intimidating without putting on a copycat Vader costume.
He's only in the position he's in because he's Snoke's apprentice, and presumably the only reason he got that position is because he's one of the few force users left.

You need to think of what "remnant" means in-context. The Rebels in the original trilogy took out two space stations and part of a fleet. Granted they killed the leader and his sidekick, but the empire spans an entire galaxy. Yes they are the only members of the "Jedi" organisation left alive. But the Star Wars
games and novels have indicated that there are other "force users" across the galaxy
who's powers have often matched or exceeded those within the Jedi and Sith order.
There were organisations that followed the light such as the "Ysanna".
And there were others who followed the dark side suck as the "Nightsisters".
After order 66 was anacted all "Jedi" were to be wiped out. But other force users who were
not a part of or allied with the Jedi order were mostly ignored by the Galactic Empire.
If anything the Galactic Empire would seek to recruit these force users into their Sith ranks.
Rey's parents/lineage could've have come from any other order besides the Jedi or Sith.

You're missing the 3rd option: The Flip-Flop
Rey is obviously a powerful, headstrong, angry, and arrogant character. Through her arrogance ("Don't hold my hand"), innate power (All the Mary Sue stuff), and anger (She was totally tapping into the darkside in her fight against Ren) she will begin to look down on Luke's training, seeing it as too slow and/or beneath her.
In the mean time Kylo's patricide had the opposite effect he expected. Instead of severing his tie to the past and letting his darkness grow he is even more guilt ridden and penitent than what we saw in VII. Eventually Rey's strength and arrogance prevails and she abandons Luke's training and goes on a mad quest for power. Just as Kylo's conscience gets the better of him and he sets out on a journey for redemption, or at the very least repentance.
Eventually they'd cross paths *cause the Force wills it*. Rey, drunk with power and wanting to prove herself, would challenge Kylo. He'd be hesitant to fight but Rey would force him to defend himself. Through the film we'd see each character use and represent the 2 sides of the Force. Rey's eagerness to fight as well as her need to prove herself reveal her lust for power and recognition. Through Kylo's penitence we see a search for answers, and by refusing Rey's challenge and only drawing his blade as a last resort he'd show a desire for peace/diplomacy.
I'm basing this fanfic tier theory on a Yoda quote, "A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." And it really feels like they're gonna have Kylo pull a Zuko, I mean he's already got the eye-scar.

Are the planets in the same solar system? All stars are light YEARS apart. Or is this laser some bullshit faster than light shit? If that's true, how the fuck did everyone see it coming? You can't see shit in hyperspace while in normal space. Also doesn't hyperspace take computer programs to correct coarse multiple times since they said ti was impossible to go in a straight line because of all the gravity wells of planets in the way?
Otherwise these planets have to be in the same solar system. Why the fuck did they let them built a big fucking planet weapon so close?
Actually why the fuck did they let them build this at all? It made sense in the original movies because the Empire controlled essentially all of the galaxy. But the First Order doesn't have enough influence/power to let them happen. Did everyone just look the other way while they built this over years? Or did they somehow fucking hide a massive effort bigger than the fucking death star?

What's more, he never became proficient at a spell without failing in its use at least twice, and he was constantly being educated and taught by the people around him. His talent didn't exist in a complete and utter contextual vacuum, as in the case of Rey.

What probably happened is that Kylo Ren used his knowledge of the force and light sabers and let the first order make a similar weapon which can be issued to troopers for general combat, and of course, if the need arises, to counter light sabers.
