noticed people never say what desktop environment, decided i'd change that
>Post picture of desktop you like for either aesthetics or productivity
>State which one you like it for
>State what desktop environment you are using so others can get a good idea of what that desktop environment looks like
>If you want, explain how it increases productivity
>Feel free to request specific desktop environments
>And no: this is not the same thing as a desktop thread you foolish

Most productive desktop? No icons. Whoever's lounging around in their desktop screen isn't very productive, now, is he? If you wanna play a game then just type in the name of the game in the search... it's not hard.
>>
>>6617944
The setup is dependent to the OS IMHO. Because the tools used in making a productivity focused rice (launching the needed programs quickly/multitasking with comfy aesthetics) is different. For example, tiling on Windows is shit, meanwhile on Linux, it is the way to go.
>>
>>6617944
I'll play.

No de. Just i3. Super easy tiling. I am so used to tiling now that anything else is a hassle. Things open in a predictable manner, are easy to resize and never cover anything else. What more could you want. Plus i3 has easy floating for when you want to make an aesthetic scrot.
>>
>>6618124
Yer, ever since I moved away from having a de and started using dmenu life was better. I don't understand desktop icons any more.
>>
>>6617944
What is yours? I like the widget in the top left and the system status on the right

like it for both.

i just prefer clean desktops.

>>6618124
second this.
For most games i just can go into steam and type the name.

opening a program is very fast (just click on windows key + type some letters of the program + enter)

Thoughts on mine? For me, it makes things easier to access, and have it all in one place.

Nice desktop, what are you using?
>>
>>6618289
I like it, what are you using? Dont forget to tell everyone what your using so it helps them out :)
Actually, if you tell me what this is i'll probably use it
>>
>>6618142
I understand, i just think it might be useful if people explain what they are using, includign the tools they use, i they wish, just thought that naming stuff your using would be helpful to onlookers

This is an example of a rainmeter setup. Rainmeter is a gadget application. Here's a link to the site ( https://www.rainmeter.net/ ), look it up in google images, its really customizable and a great choice if you are stuck with windows :)
>>

multiple monitors are so useful!!! Unless you are playing a game full screen, in which case multiple monitors can cause a problem, bu for multitasking its awesome. Also, i realize this, but this is a thread for discussion and showcase of computer productivity tools and desktop environments, and i agree that no icons can be the way to go, but it all comes down to personal preference, doesnt it?

If you're talking about linux, it's because the ricer desktops you see usually don't use a desktop environment, like this guy. >>6618144

On Windows here, I don't use rainmeter since it's useless to me. Editing my context menus using regedit was far more useful. I don't need desktop icons anymore.

damn, i'm gonna do that now

I made it using rainmeter. If you don't have it, you can get at at rainmeter.net, and has tons of customization options.

You can get skins from deviantart, (http://rainmeter.deviantart.com/gallery/23941137/Skins)

or rainmeterhub.com + others.

Here are the skins that I'm using (make sure you have rainmeter installed first)

>>
>>6619028
Rainmeter doesn't make you productive.
keybinds and tiling does.

>>

What's the point of those tiny unusable file explorer windows?
>>
I use dwm+dmenu, no DE.
I have an old laptop with real little screen real estate, so I appreciate having stuff that conveys the most information with the least waste of space. dwm is ideal for that, as the top bar is at most 20 pixels, switchable, and it puts no title bar on windows. It's just you and the tiling.
For max info conveying I have a script that shows some system status info and a clock in the free space to the right.
