I think the intention is to show the over-simplification of the self-image into something that's perhaps a bit more dynamic and attractive than it should be. I mean how often have you hit on a girl that you would never have spoken to otherwise when you were drunk?
But the moon and stars do that nice contrast of that haze that comes over you at the same time, the whirling sense that everything is clear but somehow also dizzying.
