not that guy.. but I think he doubled the height dimension of his monitor instead of the width. Assuming his monitors are standard orientation, I believe you would double the WIDTH (1920 x 2) and the height remains 1080.

I'm trying to turn this into a 1920 x 1080 wallpaper that's easy on sleep deprived eyes, with 2 inches of dark/black on at least the right side to blend in with my vertical taskbar if possible.
I tried to just smudge the colors out using the grains and angles to guide me as I usually do to expand art like this into a larger background, but it was turning too bright with the light sky blue and white everywhere. So then I tried scaling the image down more and surrounding it with black and smudging them together somehow; that turned out childish looking and didn't compliment the watercolor(?) art style since the black was so saturated. I don't know what I can do with the image to make it look decent as a wallpaper. Maybe I'll just frame it nicely?
If someone wants to give it a shot, please do, creating any type of 1920x1080 or greater wallpaper with the image I would be grateful. Or if you just have tips or guidance on simple methods to create wallpapers with images like this, please share your ideas that would be awesome too, thanks.

I took the original image and blew it up and then added a gaussian blur filter to it, radius 104 (in case you're curious).
The "shadow border" on the image is an outer glow set to black.
The black piece was just a marquee selection that I set to 2in by 1080px and then filled with black.

a bit, but photoshop has different algorithms you can use to try to combat that. And it's not a "one size fits all" solution, but in the case of changing 1366x768 to 1920x1080, as long as it's already decent quality, will look fine.
