>>
>>6407528
In my case (OP), I wrote the css and html from scratch, just trying different things(used only basics actually), then in another startpage thread some anon gave the search bar Javascript and I edited it a bit so it is suits better my needs.

After that(you see there is no address) I wrote a very short chrome extensions, which I dont recommend as if you don't upload it to chorme store it will make trouble whenever you start the browser, but I got used to it

If you don't know how to do that kind of thing, plenty of people make their startpage designs/code available to use, with simple instructions on changing the wallpaper/links etc. Unfortunately I just wiped my history and stuff so I dont have any links for you

Anyway here's another mockup i did, if someone wants to code this up they're more than welcome to because html/css is not my strong suit desu

Not the same guy but that will change anything that has a class that begins with "linq" e.g. "linq1" to have a black background when you hover over it so yeh the small squares.

As >>6408927 said, that's put for each class that start with "linq" have a black background when you do an over, that is, when you put the mouse (in this case) ON the thing with the class linq* (that's linq1, linq2 etc. . .)

Not sure what you mean...if you read the thread though you should see that typically the way to make your browser (firefox) look different is to use extensions which allow you to use custom themes/skins made by others or yourself. It's pretty easy and is nothing more than downloading an extension and clicking on some stuff. Might be more involved if you decide you want to make your own theme.
>>
>>6417964
I mean , is it possible to really rework it to not even look like default layout?
Look at this one>>6407557
Doesnt look like anything "normal" . Is this even firefox? Its crazy and awesome at the same time.
And that I am interested it , can it be done by using custom styles?
>>
>>6418048
I'm pretty sure he just cropped out the address bar and tab bar... What would even be the point in not having a toolbar where you can look at tabs?
You can certainly just disable your own address bar if you wanted to do that, just right click and turn it off. I'm sure there is a way to disable the tab bar, but why would you want to do that? (You can make it hidden in fullscreen options for your browser though)
>>
>>6418048
Also yeah, of course you can rework it to not look like default, tons of extensions for that
>>
>>6418069
>>6418071
In the end this is all done by css?
Do you think the same customization is possible on Chrome since it is not open source and all that?
>>
>>6418082
Not 100% on what you are asking about, specifically.

To set a custom startpage, it really shouldn't matter if you are using Chrome or Firefox. All you have to is make the .html file and save it, and set that location as your homepage or startpage (e.g: file:///C:/.../newtab.html)

You can get many of the same extensions in Chrome as in Firefox which will let you download skins and themes that change the color and stuff of your toolbars. I don't really care about that part though.

I dunno if it is possible to change the way buttons and toolbars actually look in terms of size in Chrome since I don't use Chrome. You can easily do it in Firefox and I think this is useful as I make my toolbars and buttons as small as possible.

Delete the startpage and google search text, set a fitting font for the links, maybe make the text bigger (maybe handle it in 2 columns), give the search bar more margin on the right side, get rid of the lines and try to get a warmer tone of grey for the background, maybe set a little opacity for the background too (thats personal taste tho)

the numbers at the top left are virtual desktops, added by your window manager. adding them depends on what OS/window manager you use.

I got inspired by this thread and quickly made the following.

It has minimal animations over hovering, can't really be bothered to film it. Also the top link goes to my portfolio page, and has a quickly written wiggle animation.

easier way is to go into about:config

search newtab

change values for browser.newtab.url and browser.startup.homepage to where your page is located (file:///.......)

This will make clicking newtab, open your homepage, instead of the speed dial thing. Like older versions of firefox.
>>
>>6421999
What browser is that?

>>6422615
firefox, i assume.

Here ya go guys! Again, neither the css or html are mine, I just changed em a little to go together. Also, it is firefox. Having some issues with display drivers not responding though. Gonna have to research that unless someone else has had the same problems recently.

>>6422560
This guy (>>6421361) is the better option. Your way of doing it hasn't worked since firefox 41 (I believe). The plugin has an easy text field to put the path to the html file.

On the same note, does anyone have a link to that pastebin that was supposed to have all the information about startpages? I wanna update it to match up with the changes in firefox as well as a couple of other things.
>>
>>6422756
Fuck me that was the wrong link.

Here's the correct one: https://github.com/huffstler/RiceBowl/tree/master/Web

The ones that you're looking for are categorized by folder.

>This guy (>>6421361) is the better option. Your way of doing it hasn't worked since firefox 41 (I believe). The plugin has an easy text field to put the path to the html file.

Could be true for you.

But I'm using Firefox 43, and I find exactly the opposite to be true. The addon didn't change new tab to direct to homepage, whereas just changing it in about:config worked.

Not bad for a first try. I think that it looked better if you changed your font, styled your links and added some padding on the top and bottom of the link div. Overall, okay 6.35/10.
>>
>>6423044
idk where you're stuck tho..
either run the command on linux or the vbscript for windows, enter the path to the images and let it generate the list for you
then copy-paste the imagelist to the homepage (replacing my preset list) and change the filepath

>>

Maybe it's me being autistic about this... but your bottom row of cards is not centered. Also, you have both a 4chan card and icon as well as having a Reddit, twitter, and steam icon. Aren't those social as well? Why would you have them in 2 places?

>>6423171
Read this ( https://gist.github.com/huffstler/4325a516c0e52b2eac74 ), and then come back to this comment. Pay attention specifically to the links provided in the customizing section.

I've mirrored the pastebin to a gist for easier editing (Pull requests and whatnot). Whoever makes the next thread can use whichever one they prefer.

My first take on css, combined these two and tuned them a little
>>
>>6424772
I forget where I stole the original template but it was ghetto as fuck. The fonts were cheap looking, the background required files on the server, and there was no AJAX

I spend an hour or so gutting that shit --making that background randomly fetched from a web service, added random quote from a QOTD server, created some custom fonts, rounded the edges on everything, added top and botton launcher bars, and custom search providers to all the controls.

I can't tell you anything about it now though since my developer machine went tits up this morning. Tried to pull the GPU out and accidentally pulled the PCI-E socket off the motherboard along with the GPU.
