Pick a cool theme or something, then put a different wallpaper in the theme on each of your desktops (I'm assuming you'll do the swiping around for different panes thing, one thing that rules about OSX)

Go through all the system preferences.
Right click the desktop, more settings there.
Open a finder window, more settings for Finder.
GeekTool is great, so is BetterTouchTool.
Switch the idiotic fucking inverted scroll direction.
