Phone Thread #154
Before asking for a wallpaper, reverse image search it. This function is built into 4chan now. Its not hard to do.

what icon pack is that?
Any opinion or advice on this? I'm a newfag on customization.

>>1926681
Can't really see the folders on the bottom very well desu. Maybe try icons that don't blend in so much?
>>1926693
Actually, that was the idea. I wanted icons to look natural and not out of place because I wanted the focus on the wallpaper.
>>1926691
Here it is.
For basic touchwiz roms is Wanam module recommended?
Just installed it now and I'm really confused of it's theme section. It gets kinda annoying when you have to restart to see your changes take effect.
>>1926707
To add. I'm using a 5.0.
Changed it a bit.
New phone so I decided to move to something different. Still a work in progress so any comments or recommendations would be appreciated.
Also, is there a way to make the icons in the Poweramp widget more compact or to just remove the fast forward icons?
Think I'm really happy with mine now.
>>1926728
I like how it looks.

Did you use wanam exposed to change the color of your quick settings?
Any suggestions?
>>1926900
Source?
Three same framework themes I made for different wallpaper colors. Tapping the time opens clock/alarm, Tapping song name skips to next, text above it and progress bar pauses. Invisible box in between time and current song that opens current media playing app.

No, I just installed a theme lmao.

sd-black. I have a galaxy s6 so I'm not sure how it works for other phones.
>>1927027
It's completely personal preference, and I may be alone in this, but I absolutely hate your font choice.
I made my first some months ago and this is my second. Any opinion or advice about it?
Still a WIP but I like it so far. Constructive criticism welcome. T opens text F opens FB G opens google. Circle on right is battery, clock rotates back and forth subtlety. The hexagons also rotate

>>1926824
Sorry, haven't checked these threads in a while. Hope this works: https://u.pomf.is/zrqxdy.klwp
Thanks, I'm glad someone likes them!
>>1926618
Cute, bit off-center vertically in the second screen but really nicely done. It's hard to pull off such a starkly contrasting theme, so well done.
>>1926972
Not him but that smaller font looks pretty good.
What is it?
>>1926974
I've never seen anyone do so but there's not exactly a watch face thread, so I'm hard-pressed to say if there's a general you could go to in order to post that. You might as well try here, honestly.
>>1927439
You're not, it doesn't work too well in my opinion either.
>>1927500
Personally, I'd stay away from handwritten fonts at sizes that large. If you're going for it, go for a sans-serif, rounded font (like Product Sans or Quicksand or what have you, just google/check dafont/etc. for sans serif fonts. There's loads of good ones). I would stay away from Helvetica, any "default" sans-serif font (i.e. Arial), and the likes since they might be 2edgy (as in, their edges would be too sharp to suit the softness of the image, I think). In the end, font choice is personal preference/basic design guidelines, so I'd strongly recommend perusing some sites with fonts to see ones you like.
>>1927037
Pretty neat idea, but it seems odd to try to expand your text in a vertical direction when you're using a horizontal bar (if that makes sense?). The blue on the third screen for the icons on top is kinda meh, I'd pick a more desaturated, lighter color to contrast more heavily with the bar.
>>1927840
>>1927037
About that one, the blue one was an older screenshot I didn't care to rechange my entire theme to update. I have a stamped light blue icon pack for exactly what you were talking about, and the bottom bar is higher to match it. I don't get what you're saying about the vertical text on a horizontal bar, but to explain I have a set width (dynamic text size) for the song name playing, because inbetween the clock and song name is an invisible box that opens up the current media player.
>>1927840
>Not him but that smaller font looks pretty good.
> What is it?
One of the roboto fonts, for the time/date I used the thicker robota fonts and for the music I used the thinner ones
>>1927861
Roger that. I mean having text stacked on top of each other, it makes more sense to have text laid out more horizontally than vertically in a horizontal bar (at least in my opinion), feel free to ignore that though.
>>1927893
Really! That looks surprisingly good with the Japanese text. Thanks for the heads up!
>>1927439
>>1927840
Thanks for the feedback!
>>1927935
Could you please deliver the wallpaper?
>>1927935
That's what these threads are for! This looks a lot better, I'd reconsider the font size for the left popup bar thing/add more stuff so the font can be smaller but that font is pretty tight.
Hey guys, i want to rice using this wallpaper as a framework.
I'm having serious problems trying to come up with a color that fits well with it, for the banners, icons, etc. The red blue/white clash too much with everything.
Any suggestions?
>>1927977
Here you go.
>>1927982
Alright thanks. I'll see what I can do.
First time doing this, any advice?
The "100" is the battery charge.
What do you guys use for a lockscreen? I'm using default right now but it feels kind of boring.
Also thanks to the anon who made the Mugi_Red preset and shared it, really liked the idea!
>>1920528
If you're still here, what resources did you use to learn how to do all that? I've been looking to do some animation like that for awhile.
>>1927991
Hope to see it.
>>1928112
I currently use Zui Locker, but there's a plethora of lockscreen apps (of varying decency) that have options that you might find more or less relevant to what you're trying to get. Do you think you could up that preset? I'd love to take a look at it, I didn't download it when it was still up.
>>1928145
If you've used klwp before, all of that can be achieved using the animate on bg scroll function just with different limits, speeds, and initial x axis placement of the panels.
>>1928207
I'm not the one who asked, but thanks for the info. Definitely seems like something fun to mess around with.
>>1926607

>>1928112
That's so someone is using my theme! I like the color palette you've chosen, its very comfy.
My current setup could stand a change, but beach Mugi fits the season very well!
>>1928247
Neat, that's so neat...
>>1928197
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/76ycu0f3cicla01/AADYV-75F7e2vByi5KaDwCrOa?dl=0
That's most of the presets that have been posted by anons
Mugi_Red is the default of the one I'm currently using and thanks for the tips!
This is hard, I don't have a clue where to start. All I know is I want my phone to look pretty...
Either want the general theme to be something light and airy, and sky-like. Or pretty much the opposite, something dark, mostly black.
Kinda leaning towards the latter since it'd also have the added bonus of saving a ton of battery compared to the former.
Is there a booru of wallpapers or themes?
>>1928419
Well I'd recommend starting by downloading a launcher then KLWP and playing around with it for awhile
>One last lazy OP
>Timma leaving?????
RIP. Came by to say i'm finally making the ios to android jump this weekend but no fun without the OG's around ;-(
>>1929013
timma isn't leaving, just not making OP's.
>>1926607
Partly inspired by the third theme, on the right.
Now, time for ratings.
>>1927998
Not bad, but I would make those top numbers and icons smaller, consistent in size and posititon.
>>1928112
Damn, this is nice. A bit bright for my tastes though. I use the stock lockscreen, but with Lockscreen Widgets Xposed module to put my custom clock widget in.
>>1928145
It's just a lockscreen, and an iPhone one at that. Not bad drawing though, but it doesn't exactly make for the best wallpaper.
>>1928228
A nice rice, I always like a dark theme. I would fix the spacing on the clock text, you should move it up just slightly.
>>1928247
This would be almost perfect if the wallpaper was of higher resolution, and maybe blurred as well.
>>1929206
Here's a WEBM.

Ah what a shame. I like xposed module but so many applications block it. Which just makes this phone a decorative item.
>>1930067
It opens clover. Wasn't sure what other icon in the material set in KLWP worked.
>>1929790
So I tried Phonograph, pretty good. Looks slick but its still far from being fully functional as something like poweramp. I really hope the dev pushes better with the development. I wanna ditch this god damn tacky poweramp. I don't mind if he makes a pro version. Wouldn't mind shelling a few changes.
Does anyone know if there is a launcher that works similar to z-launcher but doesn't have the clock on the home screen? Or if anyone knows how to get rid of the clock on the home screen that'd be neat too.
Threw this one together earlier today. My phone was lacking in Rory so I decided to change that.
Didn't know there was a Kustom Widget. Anyone tried it? Hows the interaction with KLWP?
>>1930162
I use it a bit. It works well with KLWP since you can copy things you made in KLWP and paste them directly into KWGT. The main downside is that KWGT doesn't support animations so I only use it for more simple things like my lockscreen widget. Other than animations, I think all the other features are the same
>>1930134
I assume you're using klwp, can you post your rice or config?
>>1930136
What do you use Poweramp for? The equalizer?
If you have root, you could just use Viper4Android to get system-level equalizer on all your music apps and such.
Got to a state where I don't totally hate it.
>>1927374

>>1927374
Mind sharing the klwp .zip?
>>1926900
Link to the kwlp file?
>>1929372
Looks ebin!
New to KLWP and I'm trying to make 3 pages.
If an image goes above the 720 mark is there a way for it to just show what fits within the 720 mark without extending onto the other pages?
I have two of them that no matter what I do in PS they end up not showing quite right within KLWP unless I adjust, so right now they're at 748.
Fixed it up myself.
Feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks ^.^
>>1930791
Crop it or make it scroll
>>1930824
Yeah, I've tried cropping in PS, but when placed in KLWP the way it scales effectively negates the crop. And I have Animate - Bg Scroll => Scroll.
Okay, lads, what color should the clock and my Shuttle+ widget be?
>>1930825
Try increasing the speed in the animation, for whatever reason that seems to move it more and effectively makes it so you don't see the edges. I usually find 200 is a good speed but you might need more
>>1930871
It's personal taste, but I think cyan contrasts well with most colors
>>1930878
Wow. Wtf? Had to bump it a bit over 200, but that did it perfectly. Thanks so much, mate.

There's a red ghostly notification bar whenever my device is full screen (including on my home screen when I hide the top bar). It doesn't show up in screenshots however (which is why I didn't include one). Is this a known problem with android 6.0? I'm sorry if this isn't the right thread, but I'm posting here because it's ruining my rice.
>>1931090

I'm still debating on if I'm full on leaving or not. I'm done with the OP stuff now though for sure. I've been making them for at least 130 of these threads and here lately my activity has been damn near nothing. Whoever is making the OP images should be someone active and who's keeping up the with trends in the threads. This shift to using KLWP and making webms showcasing animations and various popup's has really changed the feel in here and after, like, what, 5 years now my heart just isn't in it. All that coupled with this kind of attitude >>1931365 (both the summer fag shit and all the config requesting) and I'm ready to find a new hobby. Might pick up gunpla or something. idk. I'll try to get a couple rice related images up before the thread dies, but no promises.

Gunpla is cool, i'm getting into figure collecting (or more so figures I always wanted but had no money to get lmao). Oh well i'll come up with a cool design for my phone before you decide to call it quits so I can say I have reached max Android life.

Made this for my friend a couple of weeks ago, thoughts?
>>1931556
I feel like webms aren't bad as long as there is some sort of reason for them. I think it's pretty cool to be able to see how the whole setup works cohesively, rather than just seeing static images. I will say though that I've noticed - and I've only been here for a little over a year now - that people are just lazy af and the general quality of these threads has definitely dropped off even in the short time I've been here lol. Idk what it is; I feel like there are just more kids or something (which would explain the shitty rices and constant asking for help/spoon-feeding). I guess that's the struggle of enjoying a medium primarily aimed at kids/teens lol
>>1931892
The webms aren't bad most of the time, and I will agree it's cool to see some of the things worked out. But it's what comes after one cool webm is posted, or in some cases a thread full of them. The "first world problem" is making an op when all images posted are lackluster and all the webm posts take to much effort to get into an op. The larger one is the how all discussions have just died. Feedback and suggestions used to be a big part here. Even kids could be pointed the right direction to crank out some good shit. Now it's just demands for klwp presets. Which in itself I disagree with because it's a little different than asking for uccw uzips.
>>1931607
Don't. The scene has changed and I'm old and set in my ways.

He's not pissed about webms, they are just an inconvenience. If you read what he's saying they are cool, he not saying he's pissed. The dynamic of the thread has changed and he's just not following that trend.
I didn't do a lot of changes, since I'm still trying to learn how to do a lot of things on klwp. Suggestions are welcome.

>>1932579
Yeah I started doing this a few weeks ago, but never once did I askfor help or how it was done or anything. People should just learn to use google and play around with KWLP before they post. Obviously questions are okay but the amount of spoonfeeding these people need is insane
>>1932592
Hate to shit on you summerfags but KLWP encourages the lazy ricing and spoofeeding, it's a great tool, but boy does it bring you guys in.
>>1932597
What makes you think I'm a summerfag?
And I was agreeing that the amount of spoonfeeding people need is ridiculous
>>1931928
Before you leave do you have any tips for ricing 5.0 touch wiz stock roms? I was tempted to switch to AOSP roms but I'll lose S Pen capabilities on my Note 3. Thinking of manually messing with xmls since wanam is an unfinished mess. Also xposed is not an option for me as many of the applications block me from using them when its installed. Really stuck with the choices I have right now. Only thing I'm using right now is KLWP. Still have to work on lockscreen as well.

to elaborate on what I had here, >>1931928, I've shared plenty of UCCW widgets, and some tasker stuff in the past. I've even help create some for people in the threads. The way they are shared and used it what changes things. Simple examples to build upon go further than "here is a full blown cut and paste ready to go theme". So long as one person at least learned from that shared theme then some good was done.
>>1932067
Pretty much what >>1932091 said. What part outside of the "muh OP is hard to do". Seeing what is possible is a great source of inspiration. Rather than in text "If I tap here this will open, and this element bounces" you can visually see it much better. Thats why I made that easy webm guide. My gripe is discussion and feedback has died down a lot. General composition critiques are a minority now, where as "post the config" is a majority of the posts.
>>1932597
Its not much lazier than requesting a psd file and a couple uccw/zooper widgets.
>>1932635
I don't I haven't been on TouchWiz since android 4.2 on the GS3. All my rice ever involved was a wallpaper and widgets. As far as themes or skins for the overall UI, I generally avoided them. Even when using aosp. A custom launcher with the notification bar hidden and some clever widgets goes a long way. If I posted a gallery of all the rices I've used telling me which was TW and which was AOSP would be hard to do.
At most I'd recommend rooting and getting xposed running. A couple root privileges goes a long way.
What's wrong with spoonfeeding? Why can't you guys help each other out? Everyone is new at some point. If you help them out the first time they get some basis on how to do things, instead of going blind and having no clue what to do.
>>1932866
People tend to take these layouts, alter the wallpaper or colours a bit and post it up as something completely different
>>1932885
Nice bait.
>>1932699
Thanks! I'm using Motiva Sans.
>>1932866
To me, the issue >>1932885 describes is relatively minor, if one at all. People just don't bother to learn anything. These threads aren't to post pretty themes and circlejerk about them and to share configs; they're to discuss, critique, and (through both of those things) learn. Posting klwp zips just completely cuts out the middlemen of discussing and critiquing (thus bypassing learning) and goes straight to "here's a cut-and-paste, ready-to-go theme. You don't have to do jack shit, just use this!" which is what the Play Store themes are for, not this thread.
>If you help them out the first time they get some basis on how to do things
Giving them the answer isn't the way to do this. Put it this way: would you teach someone to fish by giving them a fish without explaining how you got it, what you did to catch it, and how they can improve on their technique? Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach him to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime. Everyone is new at some point, you're very right, but that doesn't mean that they'll become more experienced by people giving them the solutions to every problem they come by without any effort whatsoever on their part. It's the same thing you see with people demanding to be spoonfed configs or wallpapers, just general laziness, lack of agency, and entitlement. That's what spoonfeeding is. It isn't a positive thing or a helpful thing by any means, which is why it is so derisively looked upon by pretty much anyone who isn't either a newfag or a summerfag in these threads.
>>1932908
To continue, as someone who's been around here for a decent while (I was the iPhone 3G anon before I switched to Android, if anyone remembers. I wasn't that memorable but I'm sure I was the only one) it's very sad to see what was a somewhat vibrant, somewhat nurturing thread (there were definitely copycats, beggars, newfags, and so on) to shitpost central. You can't be surprised that someone would take issue with this, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who is. Maybe I'm just a cranky geezer relative to these threads but it's just incredibly frustrating to see what the "scene" has become. Sorry for the rant, but yeah. I just hope that people learn to come here to learn and not get spoonfed configs/themes/setups and, what's more, feel like they should get them without any input on their part whatsoever. I get tinkering and learning from it and those aren't the types I'm talking about, but rather the people who leech off others in order to get config files and never discuss, never critique other's rices, and so on.
That said, in general the quality of rices in this thread is kind of difficult to comment on politely. I'm not sure why it's suddenly dipped so low (sorry to be blunt, but it really has compared to previous threads, and I didn't think I'd ever say that), but that may be another issue altogether.
>>1932924
I'll bite, what are you trying to say? From what I understand of the term spoonfeeding, it is completely the opposite of conducive to learning and so I simply cannot see what you are trying to get. These threads, again, aren't meant to circlejerk with sharing our configs. If the OP isn't enough indication, it's meant to discuss and learn how to rice, and then share those rices and critique/improve on them. How does spoonfeeding fit into this process?
>>1932927
What I'm trying to say is, that if some guy wants a similar layout or whatever it would be better to teach them how to do it instead of just giving them 1file up and done.
>>1932908
I get the whole "teach a man to fish..." analogy but there is a lot to say about having a good example or template to learn from. Granted most don't analyze or attempt to learn from them at all. Imagine a math book without examples in the front of each chapter. The publisher could say it's spoonfeeding but seeing the end product is a great way to learn a process.
>>1932928
This is pretty much what I'm trying to say as well though. I want people to learn how to do something rather than getting spoonfed, that was sort of the entire point of my post.
>>1932929
>I get tinkering and learning from it and those aren't the types I'm talking about, but rather the people who leech off others in order to get config files and never discuss, never critique other's rices, and so on.
I agree. I've looked at themes myself to see how they work and learn something from them. I know there are likely others ITT who do the same. But those aren't the types I was referring to (as mentioned in the quote above). I'm referring to the probable "most" of the posters who don't actually try to learn from the configs they request.
>>1932933
I'd explain how I set it up, from where I started to where I finished. That's actually mine, so I could if you want me to. I don't mind posting the config, since I don't really care if someone uses it (I lose nothing for it, after all) but yeah, I'll write up a post on how I did it, then. It isn't really tradition to do that with every post though (as is easy to see) and I've gladly done it in the past before, for what it's worth. Takes a little more effort but it's easily worth it, just more people ask "Post config?" instead of "How'd you do that?"
>>1932933
Alright, so here I go.
I always start off ricing with a sketch of the layout I'm going for. Pic related, it's not a very complex set of sketches at all and it's more for me to figure out what the hell I'm doing than for artistic anything. It's just easier for me to figure this out now than before I begin, since I can then work towards a cohesive whole concept rather than piecing together elements one at a time haphazardly. I went through a few different layouts and what I need in them — for example, a sketch where the music was instead represented with a bar containing the cover art for the album currently playing instead of just the music info text (I scrapped that idea because it took up too much room in my opinion) and some similar ideas that I ultimately decided I didn't like as much. I usually only really need a set of app icons for my most-used apps, a clock, and music controls, but sometimes I like to try to add more if I can. This time, I decided not to. When I decided on one, I looked for some wallpapers on pixiv and danbooru, as well as flickr and /wg/. I settled on a few and went through the process of elimination to decide on only two, which took a while to be honest since there were a few I was very fond of. I usually have the most trouble with picking wallpapers.
From there, it's all KLWP (unless I'm using Tasker). I'll get into that in a follow-up post since it can be difficult to explain in a short way (and I'm closer to the character limit than not).
>>1932952
Waiting warmly.
>>1932948
The reason why is probably because good, in-depth guides on KLWP are far and few between. There's this guide: http://www.jagwar.de/kustom-beginners-guide-part-1-klwp-basics/
But it isn't all-encompassing by any means, and, in my experience, the best way to learn KLWP was just to dive into it blind and figure it out. It's incredibly intuitive in most ways and fiddling with it is often enough to get you to understand most of it. The guides in the OP and the guide I linked are just that — guides, not tutorials. So there's some active learning/practice/etc. required, I think. Nobody's here to hold your hand, y'know?
That said, here's the KLWP portion of what I did.
Rarely, I make a framework of what I'm going for. This is because I fuck up frequently. I'll change something that doesn't work as well as I thought it would or I'll just completely alter the sketch I'd been working off, and then my framework is no good anymore. I usually start off with setting some globals; globals for my bitmaps ("n" for the normalfag wall/non-anime wall, "a" for the anime wall, a font global, and n/alight as well as n/adark color globals just to make it easier on my poor fingers and save time. For this theme, I also added dark and light color globals, since I didn't really use n/adark variants; I used the same "dark" color for the bottom rectangle for both the normal/anime walls, and the same "light" color as well. Alight and nlight instead were used as the blue/green in the theme that you see. I also set up a global font (Motiva Sans) as the "main" font and got to work. First off, I set up a bitmap as the "wall"/background. In this case, it was just easier to do that than use the native background feature, but sometimes I use that instead if I can. I used a formula to change the bitmap between the two n and a global bitmaps based on my SSID (if my SSID = [SSID name], then use "a", if not, then use "n").
Continued in the next post.
>>1932957
Wall set up, and now it's time for the rectangles/bars. I set up an overlap group and in the overlap group made two stack groups, one for the two rectangles (the blue/green and the #303030 one) and the other for the content of the top rectangle (so the clock/date and the battery/sms/email counts). This might seem counter-intuitive or overly complex but it made the most sense to me at the time. At any rate, the stack group for the rectangles should be pretty easy to figure out: literally two rectangle shape elements, the top as a shorter one and the bottom as a longer one. The stack group for the clock/date and notification counts is a little trickier but still super simple since it's all done in KLWP. In the stack group for the clock/date, etc. I used another 2 stack groups, one for the clock/date and the other for the notification counts. The clock/date stack group is easy enough, just a stack group with two text elements (one for the clock, one for the date). For the notification counts stack group, I set up three more stack groups within, each for each individual app. For the battery icon, I set up a formula so that if the power source was AC or USB, the icon would be battery_charging_full and battery_std if not, so that the battery would show a charging icon if it was connected and a non-charging icon if it wasn't. The other element in the battery stack group was just a text element for the battery percent. The sms/email count stack groups are similar but simpler, with each stack group containing just a Material icon font element and a text element with the relevant notification count using KLWP's native ni() feature (very handy stuff, otherwise I'd have to have used Tasker and that makes this longer to explain).
>>1932955
This will take a few posts, so sit tight.
>>1932960
Top bar is done! Now for the bottom/longer rectangle, I set up an overlap group which contains a stack group that contains a stack group for the apps (which in and of itself contains three stack groups for each row of icons), a dividing bar (which is just a rectangle shape element), and another stack group for the music info, which contains two fonticons elements for the previous/next buttons and a stack group for the music title/artist text elements.
That's pretty much it for the bottom rectangle. Lots of nested elements so it's important to keep track, but other than that, not difficult. Make sure to keep track of touch elements for the apps, music controls, and music info (I personally set it so that the music info plays/pauses my music when I touch it, but that's not really orthodox I think).
Last but not least, I set up a progress bar for the music playtime, and set the colors so that the FG color was transparent and the BG color was the n/alight (blue/green) colors.
That's pretty much it. Sorry, I thought this would take longer to explain. Any questions, feel free to ask. But yeah, if you ask me, most of ricing is really intuitive or just takes a bit of thinking/mapping it out in your head before you blindly decide to start. There's parts where I get tripped up and have to stop to figure it out (such as when an element feels wildly out of place or a theme feels empty) but with practice you get a feel for what looks okay and what just doesn't, and personal preference/tastes play a role in it too.
>>1932963
As for personal preferences/tastes, those can come up in a variety of ways. For example, I like more painterly walls, myself, with less pop-y colors but enough color to not be darkasmysoul.png if you catch my drift. Some people like mechs (shoutout to Timma), some people like super stark contrast setups, etc. It's tough to make a one-size-fits-all rice. Ricing is very personalized, and it should be. But design isn't as subjective and I think it'd be nice if more people looked up color theory tutorials or general design principles, too. After all, both personal taste and a good understanding of design are important in ricing. So yeah, again, if any questions come up, feel free to ask. I'm happy to try to teach how I did this.
>>1932965
I'm to retarded for this but thanks for trying.
>>1932966
That's a pretty sad thing to say and I'm sorry you feel that way, but, at the risk of being rude, why do you think that? Is my explanation too difficult to understand? I can try to help. It's a pity to give up.

>>1932933
I've been around for around 3 to 4 years now and how things went when I started lurking these threads was that some anon would ask something like this
>How did you make this anon?
And the response would be something like
>I made this using [Photoshop/UCCW/Zooper/Widget Locker/______ Launcher]
The response was really made to point people in the direction to go and if they didn't understand something they would come back and ask more questions (Usually about specific parts of a rice). And because they were given the tools to recreate a rice anons would come and ask HOW to make certain things instead of just asking for the widgets themselves (Though there were people that did that). There's a learning process here and often would help others make their own rices while in a way curating the community within these threads. Those who were willing to learn stuck around and those that didn't left.
Things have changed now and I guess it's just where rice has been heading.
Not sure if I answered any question that's been asked and I'm pretty sure this is just a rant but I'll post it anyways.

>>1932409
i'll be honest. the colors you're using are pretty garbage. when you got a colorful bg like that, it may be better to use blacks and whites cause right now it clashes a LOT. also try to choose relatively similar fonts.

lol banners were cool when we started the fad but died pretty quickly. I liked them ;-(

I would probably have to find that OP post with the timeline of OP pictures in it but I think it went: Solid walls, solid walls with drop shadows, banners, Windows tile style (Windows phone layout type ugh that was a bad time) and then I don't remember past that lol. There were so many types it was hard to keep up. Timma remembers better than I do probably.

I see. That's a shame.
Well, I don't plan to use themes or skins it's just that it's plain hard to customize TouchWiz stock rom especially for 5.0. Xposed is not fully supported by TouchWiz. The release available is an unofficial one. That explains the lack of support for it. The only good way to change notification bar colors stuff are provided by Wanam and that's about it
Oh well. Guess I'll just have to rough it out and mess with xml files. I have seen some threads in xda but they were based on 4.x android versions. I hope they're still the same even for 5.x versions.
>>1932866
There's a boundary with spoonfeeding and being a lazy shit though.
I'm ok with helping people out but when they ask for configs and stuff. That's just sad and defeats the purpose of this thread.
>>19330064

I never realized how nostalgic that was. I miss the anime girls with drop shadows on solid backgrounds trend, too.

Are you using gestures? Seems very empty to me, though the idea of using text that way is really clever.
>looks real nice. and functional. i could never really do that with my stuff
Thanks! I think part of it is finding what works for you; if it works for you, it's probably functional.
>>1933014
I'd argue KLWP or Zooper, KLWP seems a little more intuitive to me in some ways and it is constantly being updated (RIP Zooper). UCCW is probably one of the more difficult ones.
>>1932185
thank you anon! new home screen for me
>>1933179
What is hard about it for you? Launchers alone hide most of the TouchWiz look from the home screens. What do editing xml files lead to? I've never had to mess with them before. I'm curious now.
>>1933247
Well these are the materials I found that might be useful to my ricing project.
http://pastebin.com/VvhpXg3s
Ok. I'm curious as to what Launcher you are referring to. So far I have Nova launcher and I can't find the option to disable S Finder and that Bright Slider.
Also. This was also the reason why I want to try xml modding since I wanted to change the colors of the UI itself. Like with this one. >>1926900
However the way he achieved that was through using themes. Note 3 doesn't have Samsung theme support and I didn't want to use some overly bloated 3rd party theme.
>>1933341
I did say UI earlier. Anyway the point is AOSP + Xposed modules are much easier to rice than doing 5.0 TouchWiz roms. This nearly drove me to the edge and question why the hell was 5.0 so left out. 4.2 versions were fairly easy to customize though.

A lot of fun stuff can be done with those lines in the wallpaper. I'd move the clock down a bit and have the hexagons lined up parallel to the line. They could also scroll along it and be replaced with e.g. a music player.
>>1927998
The icons on the bottom right one are too tight, spread them out a bit.

Firstly, thanks for critiquing some of the rices ITT. Really solid work doing so (I didn't even know where to start, so I think it's really cool you put in a few concrits).
I think that the clock font could be better, the "jumping" of the sizes from 0 to 1 to 5 to 2 is a little distracting, and ordinarily I'd say script fonts don't look too good in rices but with the color scheme and the right clock font I think they'd pair very well, actually. For a notification indicator, I'd stay away from text (i.e. "You have __ unread messages") just because the bottom is so text-heavy already. Mugi a qt, though.
Timma don't go, we still have some good to offer, hell this nigga is dropping rates like you used to >>1933581
>>1933635
I agree with what you said about the font, but I really like the cursive and sorta chubby feeling to it. I looked around a bit on google fonts and changed the font to this: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Architects+Daughter?category=Handwriting&selection.family=Architects+Daughter|La+Belle+Aurore|Nothing+You+Could+Do|Permanent+Marker|Rock+Salt|Waiting+for+the+Sunrise
Think it'll be better?
>>1933581
By "music text" you mean the one which says "enjoy the silence"? It's actually not music text, it's just text without function (I'll like it to put the phone on silence but I don't know how to do it yet).
About yours, how about a music widget or perhaps a few icons you use a lot, or perhaps a dinamic text?
>>1933676
oh shit, I didn't even read what it said I just presumed it was a song title or something, sorry. If it doesn't have any function you should remove it. I'm pretty sure you need to use tasker if you want to toggle mute by clicking it or something, but you could make it so that it only appears when it's on silence (pretty sure that can be done in klwp). You should still move it a bit though imo, maybe center it?
As for my own rice I'm working on a music widget atm, will probably post when I feel like I'm done or need some more tips. I was thinking about adding a page with only icons but I'm not sure about that, maybe I'll do it later on if I find a good icon pack. Right now I just use the app drawer for all the apps which is a bit of a bother.
What are you suggesting I should do with dynamic text?
>>1933695
Man, that's an awesome idea. I'll make the text visible when silencing it.
And about the dinamic text, why not make it so it seems to be said by Mugi?
Sorry for the poor english, I'm a little rusted.
>>1933697
hmm, I think I get what you mean now (correct me if I got the wrong idea). She sorta looks like she's thinking about something, so having a thought bubble would probably look pretty neat. But where should I place it? Beside her head would make sense but there's too little space imo, I could make her smaller to give space for a potential thought bubble, but I don't want to take the focus away from muh waifu :>
Also, what should it say in your opinion?
>>1933711
That's exactly what I meant.
I agree with you, on top wouldn't be good. Perhaps doing something like a dialogue box, as in a vn?
I never watches K on so I can't be of much help but what about something motivational or maybe make two or three different phrases that change depending the time of the day (maybe something like "good morning", "keep the hard work", "almost there").
That's what I thought, I'll keep on thinking though.
>>1933825
Sounds like a good concept but I can't think of a way to properly integrate it into my rice... I might use it if I make a lockscreen to go with the theme. Thanks anyway!

I do and a couple others have off and on but we never had 134 images all using that style in the thread, unlike when the banner craze hit. The gif one is hard to say. I'd just tack it up as a klwp animation like the one used by >>1926900 where the image grows and shrinks.Mainly because they generally looped and weren't common enough (or stood out from the klwp ones) to see as a craze.

I love seasonals. What did you use to make this?

Yeah I'm pretty new to Android, but now I want to do that with my desktop

That's just the standard Android navbar lol. Some phone manufacturers disable it in favor of hardware buttons though. You'd have to be rooted to re-enable it unfortunately

How was that jiggle achieved?

The amount of walls I have with waifus over a solid background without a drop shadow saved/made is outstanding lmao. All made when I still had my iphone 4. I remember the titty ones, those were wild. I dropped out the game around KLWP animations ;-(
>THE WINDOWS TILE STYLE ALMOST SOFT BRICKED MY PHONE LMAO I FUCKED IT UP TRYING TO SET IT UP.
>I still haven't done anything wild with my phone yet...I'm so behind on Android stuff it's crazy.

I wonder if there's anyway to make Andwobble and KLWP compatable or work together. I understand it might be impossible but it'd be cool
Android N beta on the 6p feels super comfy

Klwp animations should allow something similar anyway. If not, always go the andwobble and uccw/zooper route for widget and tiddies.
