Only high quality monogatari papes here.
That doesn't mean just HD, that also means the wallpapers should look professional and not trashy.
Rate other anons' taste in papes
Sidenote: If anyone has any good color frame wallpapers (the ones that were all over bake and nise) post those. I've been looking for a high quality Black Frame wallpaper for so long.
Scenery shots are great too, don't know why there aren't more papes of them, seeing as they're all over the show.

Thanks.
you keep talking about "artifacts". what do you mean? these look fine to me, unless you're blowing them up past 100% resolution.
>>1875031
Artifacts are the result of compressing a picture into a jpeg format. They reduce the quality of a picture in trade for letting the picture load faster on a web page. They usually aren't as bad as in pic related, but you get the idea of what they actually are. Most jpeg artifacts are also only visible when blown up to 100%. JPEGs don't HAVE to have artifacts, but most do as a result of using programs that cannot control jpeg quality. Likewise, PNGs can have artifacts, but only if you were to save a compressed jpeg as a PNG, and at that point you're probably doing it intentionally

>>1875081

>>1875194
Upscaled garbage. Literal garbage taste in desktop decoration. Filename further enforces the fact that whoever made this wallpaper had no idea what they were doing, or were doing it as a joke. I sincerely hope no one with a 1920x1080 monitor uses this wallpaper unironically. It isn't even the proper dimensions. Whoever made this upscaled the original picture and didn't even have the decency to crop 9 columns of pixels off the side. I would say this is only acceptable to use on blurry monitors, but I don't think they even come in 1920x1080. To think they even saved it as a png, as if that automatically makes the picture quality better than any jpeg. The base picture isn't even bad, and is a pretty nice pic of Shinobu, but upscalers are arguably worse than jpegers. Both people who upscale digital art and people who compress digital art have a special place in hell. 2/10 made me reply, and a little mad.

I already had a long argument with this guy a couple months ago. His main reason for the watermark was because people were getting him and another vector artist confused, so he used it to differentiate. It isn't hard to remove so it isn't the hugest deal. However, it feels disingenuous to me to add a watermark to an image that I traced from someones work. Even putting 100 hours into an image does not justify the "gratification" for signing it. He says since he only does official art, that that makes it okay? It was bullshit anyway, since in the same thread he traced a fanart image. Considering he doesn't source any of his images, I can guarantee he has more fanart images.
That wasn't even the most annoying thing. His absolute refusal to export any of his images as high resolution transparents was far more obnoxious. Sure, there is a risk of it being stolen, but who cares? Take a risk and make lives easier for others. But he refused. So you will continue to get requests to remove his watermarks and to make renders of his images in the IMT thread due to that stubbornness. At the very least you now get 4K resolution wallpapers from him now, so you can thank me for that.

I literally flipped between the two in different tabs and saw nothing. Just accept there's no true way to "dejpeg" an image
>>1876290
No, wait. I see it now.
All you did was raise the sharpness.
You know that doesn't make the picture crisper, right?
Lines with discolored edges aren't crisp.
>>1876511
I know, I told you that, but it took you 3 posts notice. And yes you can remove jpeg artifacts, it wouldn't be the exact same as the original files, but the algorithms are very good. There were actually very few compression artifacts in the original image.
Also, crisp and sharp are synonymous, so in general a sharper image is a crisper image. The problem is in this case you get artifacts as a result because of the unsharp mask filter. This is the trade-off. If you don't like that, there's not much that can be done for the original image.
This went from a rating game to a shit-throwing contest really quick. I don't quite know how I feel about that, but I do hate that this thread had to hit page 5.

>>1878698
I just think it's funny how you pick apart every little detail. "Disgusting amounts of artifacts ruin an otherwise near perfect wallpaper" Like really nigga? It just ends up being autistic after a certain point.
>>1879229
Not him, but as someone who makes high quality images, it's pretty disgusting the amount of people who don't pay attention to the quality of the image they are posting. It is far too often that I see someone post a horribly artifacted image, that with a simple reverse image search with IQDB or Google, can find the original in much better quality. I hound on these people every time, because you really should be paying attention and trying to get the highest quality version. Otherwise, you risk posting trash quality.
>>1879239
Personally, I'm looking for wallpapers for their content. Like how good the art and composition is etc. Compression artifacts and scanning artifacts are annoying, but with reverse image searching and some touch-ups on PS, I can fix that. At least to the extent that satisfies myself. The actual art, I can't really change.
>>1879277
Sure, the content is important, but that content can easily be ruined by artifacting from poor compression. It's nice that you know how to reverse image search and can fix the artifacting in PS, but why do that if you don't have to? You tell them that they fucked up and to fix it. I wouldn't call that criticism autistic, or even pedantic. It should be common sense that every time you find an image, you use reverse image search to get the best quality version, before you alter it. It's built into 4chan, and you can download this Chrome extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/image-search-options/kljmejbpilkadikecejccebmccagifhl?hl=en) to make right click searching through IQDB very easy.
There is no excuse to not spend that extra 30 seconds to find that better image.
>>1879286
Of course, basic image searching should be done by everyone, but at some point, complaining about some artifacts that can only be seen under ridiculous zoom is just to rub themselves off. I guess I don't really mind as long as they're right. All I'm saying is that these issues don't really change the score of a given wallpaper for me as long as it's fixable. It's because I tend to prefer wallpapers with fully drawn backgrounds like >>1874864 so they are more rare, but more worth my time if they need editing.
>>1879288
I make vectors, so I guess what you find as "artifacts that can only be seen under ridiculous zoom" isn't so ridiculous to me. Exporting as a PNG and at almost 10K resolution makes finding any amount of artifacting impossible, so criticizing another image for having that isn't unreasonable to me.
I will admit that giving images number ratings is a little dumb, and the image you like is still good, despite some of the JPG artifacting, but it is still there. I think getting annoyed by it is more annoying then just ignoring it, but that's just me.
>>1879290
Fair enough. I zoom in to check, but at the end of the day, what matters to me is the size it'll be shown on my screen.
I pointed out that wall for the style, but since you mention it, I do have a cleaner version.
>>1874848
>only high quality monogatari papes
>SCREENCAPS ARE ALLOWED
THREAD RUINED. Even if you download a fucking 50 GB bluray rip, these screenshots will never actually be sharp enough to look like wallpapers.
Since there seems to be a lot of discussion about technical aspects I might as well ask here.
1) Where can I find an uncompressed image when Boku no Reverse Image Search doesn't show me anything good?
2) What's the best way to properly upscale anime pics? Waifu2x is extremely stingy with the resolution limit.
I actually agree with OP even though he comes off as autistic. OP, I hope for your own sake that you're not setting your wallpaper using the Windows default tool, because that in itself causes artifacts.
>>1879305
If the source is still poor, which is a common case, look up the Topaz photoshop plugins suite. You can find cracks of it. The plugin in particular is Topaz dejpeg, this thing is like voodoo magic. They are excellent plugins, I use their denoise and detail plugins a lot as well.
For waifu2x, I use a gui version for windows when the resolution is too large for the online app (which is faster for me normally).
https://github.com/lltcggie/waifu2x-caffe/releases
Scroll down and download the zip file. Run waifu2x-caffe.exe and it will open a box with all your settings. Translation here: http://imgur.com/7LsDb5x
If you have the supported nvidia card to run CUDA, it will greatly speed up the process. Otherwise, select CPU and keep in mind that it can be slow depending on your specs. You will need visual C++ 2013 or newer.
And if anyone wants a program to set your wallpapers, I use DisplayFusion.

>>1885452
>>1886914
>>1886928
I'm not the OP, but its hilarious how any amount of criticism is immediately taken as some sort of attack on your character and you treat is as "autism." The guy wants high quality, and if you don't have it, he will point it out and tell you why its garbage. Quit getting offended so easily.
>>1886914
I fully agree.
Truly, OP's standards are crazy.
In fact, the only thing crazier than OP's standards are the artists who go out of their way to comply with OP's standards in the first place.
To ask for a high-quality image is perfectly normal, but to demand one without JPEG artifacts and also actually looks good--that's crossing the line. These two requests in no way correlate in terms of tone, and asking for the pictures posted to not look like shit in terms of compression or aesthetic is taking the whole high-quality image request too far. To all the people who think OP's second statement is just a clarification of the first, just know you're wrong and autistic because why should I be bothered to go into my pictures and check to see if they have compression or not, let alone reverse image searching them to see if there's an acceptable version of them? I already saved them once, why the fuck should I do it twice? And don't even try to get me to recognize an "aesthetically pleasing" picture, because I'm not autistic enough to care what looks good and what doesn't.
I just want to be complimented on an anonymous image board when I post my wallpapers regardless of how bad you think they are. If you honestly think they're bad (because they're not) then you're fucking autistic, doubly so because you called them out for being "shit."
All of you autismos need to stop caring about wallpaper quality in a quality wallpaper thread, and just post random images from your folder or google.
