Anybody in here play Marathon? I just finished replaying through the original series again and I'm working on completing the final plank in Rubicon X.

I'm really impressed with how accurately the Rubicon team continued the story of the original series while updating the weaponry/level design

In my experience Marathon threads unfortunately never seem to do very well on /vr/. I'm with you though anon. Marathon and Myth were quite simply Bungie's finest. Marathon is still my favorite classic Sprite-based FPS to this very day.

Have a Security Chief Pharah. I have no idea if it was an intentional reference but it sure made me smile.

Is Infinity worth playing through? I played a few maps of it and it was pretty underwhelming, just want to know if it gets better.

Infinity has branching paths depending on if you complete certain task in a few levels within a time limit. More levels with the same arsenal as 2 was always good, but I don't doubt that the story is sometimes confusing and can put people off.

My favourites were always 1 and 2.

It starts off kind of slow. The first level looks drab, and is a maze of long paths. I was actually turned off to that chapter initially.

Since this is the first marathon thread I've seen in a while, I had a question about 2's mapmaker. Is there a hardware limitation on making it work, or am I just being stupid? I can run forge itself, draw out a map and all that, but when I go to launch it, the screen turns into some motion blur mess like a corrupted .gif or something.

Running this off a Biege G3 Powermac.

if you're seeing that 'motion blur mess' you have untextured or empty areas in your map
>>
>>3357429
or you're spawning the player outside of the map, or something. the effect you're seeing is for when there's 'nothing' there

that makes a lot of sense, thank you.

OP here, I left the thread for dead last night and it was nice to see that some people replied during the day.

Infinity might actually be my favorite of the three, since I love to follow the plot, but I understand that the level designs can seem intentionally obtuse and the plot only starts to make sense on repeat playthroughs (and if you read through some of the old Marathon's Story forums)
