I remember sitting in a dark basements for hours each day when I was a kid, always dying because Mario was so damn slidey. Eventually beat it after spending practically 2 weeks locked in basement. I was proud.
i was never able to get through it as a child. :-(

I got stuck at in world 8 big pit,so my cousin who was visiting and staying for a week would get me and every afternoon after lunch and some rest we would sit in front of the tv with this game.
He was also the one to tell me that you can have extra lives with the green mushrooms,places where you can find them and also locations of the magic beans.

I beat it when I was a teen playing it on Animal Crossing. Tougher for me was Zelda 1, that took me a while. Both really fun games though.
