Has anyone on /vr/ had any luck before installing/running Win95 on Dosbox to play early Windows games?

that sounds terrifying

Yes. It's awful.

Install virtualbox and install a 32bit version of XP.

Alright, thanks. Guess I won't waste my time on it.

Try pcem - http://pcem-emulator.co.uk/ - I'm currently playing nfs 2 using 3dfx, performance is pretty low in 10.1 ver (11 is latest), but still playable. Compatibility is outstanding, just select proper mobo and graphics card. You can find all drivers on vogons.

I did, using this guide: http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=24936

I did. Before I realized it was retarded and started playing on a free machine that just works.

Early windows games = Win 3.1
That's actually easy to install in dosbox.

Wasn't able to run games.

You basically have to create a separate disk image that spoofs a FAT32 file system.

This here. PCem was the only emulator I've found that will run Ultimate Domain(Genesia). Dosbox never ran it without crashing, but PCem runs it fine. Of course, you need to install DOS and drivers and everything else manually. You probably will be able to install 95, but I have no idea how well it would work.

it's crazy how dosbox was so promising for so long then just fuckin' dropped the fuck off

What's the matter? it is pretty straightforward.

Isn't that why DOSBox-X exists?

Windows 95 or 98 are fully supported, but only early games will work at full speed on high details. Later titles need some tweaking, you can't just put high and play. Apart form that, all my games work, I've recently lost my real machine and I'm not planning to rebuild new one, so I hope pcem will move forward.
