Lackitwo.

>>
For god fucking sake

It's "Lack-it-oo"

I took linguistics in college and we studied phonetics.
Lak would be pronounced Lack, not Lock. Lok would be pronounced lock.

Itu would be a single word in English, starting with the word IT. Lak it u put together would be pronounced, quickly, as Lackihtwo.

Saying La-kee-two is like saying Roller Co-ast-er instead of Coast-er.

Japanese uses a syllabary rather than phonetics like in English, so if you have a kana version of the name, it is (almost) trivial to know the correct pronunciation. The only thing kana doesn't tell you is where the tonal stress is (more closely related to pitch than the English concept of stress), but really you only have two options in Tokyo dialect: start low or start high, and then switch to the opposite stress on the next syllable.

So, looking around, we find that in Japanese the name is ジュゲム... which is pronounced Ju-ge-mu, where the 'ge' sound is as in 'get'.

Fuck. Why the hell did it get renamed to lakitu in English??

Oh well, if it was a Japanese word, then the way you would pronounce it would be the way you wrote it out OP: La-key-two

:P
>>
>>3345919
But it isn't English. It's Japanese. Made up of three Japanese phonemes, Ra Ki and Tu.
>>
>>3345983
Small correction, it would be Ra-Key-Two. This doesn't appear to be a Japanese word.

NoA wouldn't allow an evil character whose name started 'Jew'.

Japanese loan words almost always change pronunciation entirely in English.

In Japanese, it may be "La-ki-tu" just like "Sa-yo-na-ra," but in English, we say "Sa-yo-na-ra" as "Saiyanorah."

You better go around making sure people in English specifically say "Sa-yo-na-da" because the "ra" in Sayonara is pronounced more like a da, too.

I always thought it was "la-key-toe".
>hearing someone say "mary-o"
>>
>>3346162
How do you get "toe" out of "tu"?
>>
>>3345906
I think you basically have it right. When you place one while editing in Super Mario Maker, the voice says "lah-kee-too" with no stress on any syllable.
