Always use the Internet.

Been thinking about trying this game, but not sure if I should play the first two beforehand.
Is there any continuity / recurring characters between the games?
>>
>>3345591
Continuity, yes. Recurring characters occasionally depending on the game. 5 is full of cameos and call backs to all the previous games.

That said, FM3 is a fantastic intro to the series. It also has to completely different routes depending a choice you make at the start of the game, which makes a great reason to play a second time.
>>
>>3345604
Good to know, thanks.
>>
It's fun enough but it's honestly too easy. I love how much depth and complexity there is to the mech customization and the special moves, but they aren't really even worth unlocking or spending time over because you can get through the game without breaking much of a sweat if you even remotely know what you're doing.
>>
>>3345618
Play the second scenario, it's much harder and requires more strategy especially as you get further in.
>>
Don't ignore any of your characters, grind if you have to, there are route splits and you don't want one of them slowing you down and fucking up your rank. Also, if you do the Emma route, there's a machine you'll come across about halfway through the game called the Qibing 0. Redo the level until you capture one, it's the only place you can get them and they're bananas. It doesn't show up at all in the Alisa route.

I always miss the cue when the 'big decision' occurs regarding which characters you side with
>>
Does anyone know off the top of their head which characters have a weapon specialization different than the one their starting Wanzer is equipped with? Also, is this still a controversial theory, or is it generally accepted to be true by people who've actually "tested" it?
>>
>>3346781
The route split is the first decision in the game. When Ryogo asks you to go with him on the delivery right after the tutorial if you go with him you get the Emma route, if you don't you get the Alisa route.

>>3346920
Gamefaqs has a nice write up on it, but honestly the difference isn't going to make or break the game.

Emma route is best route
>>
>>3345480
Shotgun in one hand with power-fist on the second hand plus the skill that lets you attack twice in one turn.
>>
>>3346920
Certain characters get bonus exp to certain roles, but it's minor. This is true for the first three FM games, not sure about 4 and 5. It's been awhile.

Something to do with hating his father or something, I think. It's been years since I played 3, I don't even remember. I like how half his portraits are pissed off and annoyed expressions. Even his basic expression is annoyance.
>>
>>3348651
I was terrified in FM5 when you fight Kazuki and Ryogo in the arena. I thought for sure Ryogo would start chaining something like ROFUP and wipe me out, turns out Kazuki was the tough one to deal with with his suped-up tank of a Wanzer.
>>
>>3345480
Why are you so fucking afraid of learning how to play a game that you have to fucking beg for help before you even start the damn thing? It's a fucking video game. Not rocket science, you fucking mongoloid.
>>
>Specializing in Rifles
Permanently on the bench
>>
>>3350279
Rifles aren't that bad, especially on larger maps. Except in 1 where all the non-missile weapons required you to be adjacent anyway. Was always bummed the FM1 PS1 version was a port and not a proper remake using the FM2/3 engine.
>>
>>3350319
Rifles and anyone that specializes in them are shit, yes that means Miho.
>>
Only use bodies with 60% damage reduction. Emma route has a lot of machine guns while the other shotguns. Enjoy taking no damage with max evade legs. Shields on everyone. The AI usually targets the first deployed wanzer with missiles.
>>
>>3345480

Yeah, turn the game on and start playing it.
>>
This was such a great game when I played it about 15 years ago. Just have fun, it really is not that hard of a game if you take your time and level everyone equally.
>>
>>3345480
I liked Front Mission 1 better.
>>
Go with the american route. You get Arnold to join you.

>Beautiful illustration from 1-4
>fuck up portraits in 5 for no fucking reason

That said, I think this one is the best one. If I were blinded by nostalgia I'd have called 4 the best, but I recently played that game and faced chapter 7. Fuck that chapter. This game doesn't have any bullshit difficulty spike and if it did, you can cheat easily anyway.
>>
>>3351213
FM1 was a such a massive pain in the ass. All the guns required you to be adjacent to enemies anyway, leaving far less strategical options and making shit like losing your legs early even more of a hassle. It was especially annoying on escort missions when the person your trying to escort keeps running away from your units.

I got fed up by the last 3rd ofthe game and just played 2 instead.
>>
>>3351350
What was the difficulty spike in 4? I don't remember having any trouble until late on the UCS side (I think when you had to raid the indoor base).

Also, 3's internet is starting to annoy me. I want to shoot some mechs, but I feel compelled to search for all information between missions.
>>
>>3353876
Make sure you vote for your sister for her university beauty contest!

I was always really impressed with 3's Internet thing. It was really in depth. You can find some good rare wanzer parts abd weapons for sale if you dig deep enough and find the right passwords.

I don't think I ever saw everything it had to offer though. After awhile it got to be too much. Wonder if theres a guide anyone completed that explains how to see it all.
