Because it doesn't have the same EGA tileset for the entire world or crappy sound. Controls are also a lot better. Complaining about the portraits seems pointless when the alternative is EGA shit.
Exporting the party doesn't matter that much since you want to play 6 and not 7. 7 should be ignored.
