That series of games was ahead of its time, it WAS designed to be multi-player. Unfortunately, you could only play with your pal via null-modem cable only.

Played the shit out of that on the Atari ST, never got very far but didn't mind, I just liked playing with all the vehicles. Always thought it was cool how the world kept on going even while you were tooling around in your base.

I think the most annoying thing was the lack of proper AI for allied vehicles... Trying to control 6 of them simultaneously is impossible! So you needed to carefully pan your actions (or play with someone else via null-modem)

Its strange, because AI in spiritually similar "Air Support" was done well... two years before.
