Hey /vr/. I'm looking for games in the style of Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, Elder Scrolls (Arena and Daggerfall), and Lands of Lore 2.
By that I mean first-person action RPGs with smooth free movement (not step- or tile-based with 90-degree turns). Preferably for MS-DOS.
Any suggestions?

MIGHT AND MAGIC 6-8
It's kinda weird...
Very obscure game, but sounds cool.
This one's a lot closer to typical mid 90's engine, with the texture mapping, etc.

Heretic and Hexen technically fit. That's probably not what you meant, though.
System shock 1 is same engine as underworld 1 and 2
Towers: lord baniffs deceit
Strife
Amulets & Armor
There are Menzoberranzan, Strahds Possession, and Stone Prophet from SSI are first person D&D games.

grid based movement isn't free movement
that looks more like wizardry or dungeonmaster than ultima underworld

Betryal at Krondor and Antara.

Wizardry series
Words Worth 98/XP. It's a remake of a turn and grid based MS-DOS RPG. Originally developed for the Saturn but only released for Windows.
Gameplay itself is fairly underwhelming though, the main draw is the story.

Only Wizardry 8 actually

It actually isn't, which is weird considering how similar they are.
I loved "Shadow over Riva" in my teens

I loved my Riva 128 in my teens.

Star Trail could also be set to free movement but it was completely pointless since the layout was still grid based.
The dungeons in Ambermoon and Albion are with free 360 degree movement. The overworld is a top-down affair.

Caya will forever have a special place in my heart

Not /vr/, butArx Fatalis

I feel like mentioning the King's Field series since they are the only game like that I know on the PSX.

Huhh this looks badass. How have I never heard about this before.
I wanna play daggerfall but I'm a dirty casual and the controls of the game are too clunky for me

>It would be best to play the PC98 original in Japanese.
It's a terrible grindfest. The only positive thing better are the monster graphics. Andimpregnating girls to fuck your daughters 20 years laterif you're into that.
I haven't seen many first person action RPGs on the PC98. Mainly import games like Ultima Underworld or Dungeon Master.
It does have MS-DOS though.
