Any tips on getting good at this game? I recognize there are combos to perform and that you can deflect your opponent's projectiles by doing a combo at the right opportunity. Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Honestly, the game is just pure reflex. As long as you pay attention to what's coming at you from your opponent, you're going to not be shit.
