I don't think SMW is loose, it can be tight as fuck depending how good you are at controlling Mario.
being able to duck while jumping, and the more versatile grab and throw controls makes SMW better in terms of physics, it's just more complex and the reason why the romhack community chooses SMW over SMB3.

The only thing this game needs is the ability to revisit levels and I'm sure the gba version lets you do that anyway after you beat it. Also, the tanuki tail beats the cape by a mile because it dosen't feel cheap.

I first played the NES over someone else's house. I never owned it til All Stars. I finished it eventually using the save feature but it seems like it would be such a fucking chore without that. Not sure I'd enjoy it at all.

It's better yeah, but world is still fantastic.
3 has better difficulty and variety.
World has better controls and physics.
Both have good art and music.
World is better for a pick up and play game while 3 is better for a more focused and challenging gaming session.
