Just played Planrscape Torment for the first time.

Updated my Journal.

Arcanum.
>>3318851
Pillars of Eternity™
>>3318851
Baldur's Gate
Neverwinter Nights (probably not retro)
Eye of the Beholder
or any other D&D game ever

Secret of Monkey Island.No, really!
Deff bump on Arcanum.
Baldur's Gate 1 + 2
(I believe you can export your character from 1 into 2)
Technically the first and second Fallout games would fit this description too.
The depth of character development and storyline these have. Neverwinter Nights is alright, but nothing special in comparison. imo... imo..

Only if you can answer what can change the nature of a man.
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Ultima 4-5-6
both are similarly philosophy-focused

Anything can change the nature of a man, if the man allows himself to be changed by it.

Pretentious pseudo-intellectual games with terrible gameplay?
Have you tried Metal Gear Solid?
>>3321463
but that has good gameplay and it's really more entertainment than intellectual
Betrayal at Krondor.
Pillars of Eternity, but it's not /vr/, just derivative of it.
>>3321463
The only MGS that tries to be intellectual is 2.
The first one is a war drama and the third is a james bond movie.4 and 5 don't exist

>the combat is bad so the all the gameplay is bad
Walking around talking to all the NPCs and exploring the areas was pretty interesting if you ask me.
Arcanum is a good fit. Both have shit combat but great plots.
Shitty pretentious "story" games? There's lots

And the portable games?
>all these fags who don't like Planescape Torment
am I on /v/?
>>3324215
Almost nobody on /vr likes PS:T, it's pseudo-intellectual garbage filled with lowbrow humor and gross-out purple prose
for all the philosophical nonsense it spews, it seems as though the writers never actually read an actual book about philosophy, they're just DnD nerds who read nothing but fiction

What would be your example of a good "intelectual" game?
>>3318851
>Strongest spell has an unskipable animation over a minute long
Didn't the creator consider of PS:T consider it to be a VN?
>>3324407
also this
arcanum
>>3324402
> they're just DnD nerds who read nothing but fiction
Chris Avellone doesn't really fit that description.

Other than the previously mentioned stuff I'd say "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream"
