Anyone on /vr/ a fan of the Wizardry series?

Yes Wizardry 8 is great but fuck does it get hard especially later on.
I think the whole fucking series is garbage, but that's just like, my opinion, dude.
I liked 1, 5 and 6.
Beat the first game, and it still holds up.
Never quite been able to get into the others. I got the furthest into Wiz 8, but the endless fights against Crabs and blobs got boring so I stopped.
Been meaning to give one of the middle games with a good SNES port a try at some point. Something about the PC originals graphics just turns me off.

That mainly applies to Wizardry 6 with a single tileset of EGA bricks for the entire diverse world.
For 3-5 the Apple II graphics aren't that bad. The IBM ports got shafted with CGA but there's really no reason to play it over the superior Japanese ports.
Why is this series so popular in Japan?

Because it was a direct blueprint for Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy and ever since it's been considered a golden formula you can keep building up on.

Just pick avoid portraits you don't like and play a party of Negroes and furries.
I think it's also possible to mod the images.
The problem I have is that it doesn't stop at the colors. The sounds is terrible and the controls are crap. A bunch of EGA nipples doesn't warrant playing it over the SFC port.

because it was D&D in computer game form.
they made Dragon Quest and FF based on Wizardry and D&D.
Japan even got hold of the Wizardry rights in the end since Sir-Tech went bankrupt. I don't even know who owns Wizardry right now. ASCII Entertainment probably. they even published the original series in Japan back then.
i'm playing 6 and absolutely love it. never played the rest of the series but plan on importing my party to 7 and at least attempting to beat it.
