The number of times I played S&K is superior to the ones I played S3&K, so yeah, S&K has a special place for me than the others.
But S&K have Sandopolis Act2(long, few paths, that sand corridor), S3 have Carnival Night Act2(long, few paths), S3 have Metropolis(3acts, the trio and long) and Sky Chase(boring after playing the 1st time), S1 have Marble Zone(kinda slowish and meh)
CDfags are the kind of people that prefer style over substance. They also probably play Euroshmups and JRPG's.

That said, Sonic 3 & Knuckles is just an extra gameplay mode, Sonic & Knuckles is the actual game that includes it so it can't very well be better than itself.
sonic and knuckles tilts me right of the bat with the stupid fucking vines you have to spindash out of. The music isn't as sweet as 1 and 2 as well.
Sonic 3 is great for the special bubble suits, and the bonus levels are GOAT

3K is bad Sonic game because pretty much every zone has a major gimmick that they force way too much. Comparatively speaking, the other Megadrive Sonic games have much less annoying level design. 3K is my least replayed 2D Sonic game. 2 has the best flow, but 1 has the best platforming. At the moment, Sonic 2 is my least favorite.
