Just beat this for the first time. Can I skip to the second game or should I recruit all I need so I can transfer my data to Suikoden II?

You can start the second game if you want, as I recall. However, if you get 108 stars of destiny in Suikoden 1 you get an small added bonus.

You really don't miss much by transferring, and if you're using a non-bugfixed SKII the SK1 protag's name is bugged anyway.

Skip it and play a good jrpg instead. There are plenty to choose from. If you love anime that much just watch one of the hundreds of series' out there.
