It's the original Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2. You gaijin may not know this, but it was released in America as Dopey Dumpling Pinwheel.
Mario 64 is the best Mario game

how can a spinoff be the best in a series?
>>3312506
>Mario 64
>spinoff
Oh. You're one of THOSE people.

I can see it being considered a spin-off back then, where as now it's considered one of the main games in the franchise.
>This isn't Mario! It's something completely different!

Shit. I was just playing this last night. Hadn't played it in years.
I was 2 years old when the game came out I tried it out at a demo kiosk in a blockbuster video, I remember instantly being disappointing in the analog stick on the controller but I was still amazed

This was the hypest shit. I got a promotional video in the mail for the N64 (I was totally surprised, I thought I had been specially selected, but it was probably because I was subscribed to Nintendo Power). Blew my fuckin' mind. When I finally got to play it, it was at a kiosk at SEARS (hey, remember those?) and my dad was frustrated because he was trying to get stuff and get out and all like "I didn't come here to play video games."
I should dust it off again. Although I'm in a big Zelda kick right now.

Nah sunshine was pretty fucking good.
128 Marios fucking when Miyamoto?
>>3317451
Well the essence of that kinda went into Super Mario Sunshine, Pikmin and Mario Galaxy.
SM64 still has the best and most versatile movement mechanics in any video game ever made.
Very few games make it so your freedom in stages directly scales with your movement skill.
