Can anyone recommend some good Metroidvania style games? General Metroidvania thread. Old or new, doesn't matter. I know people are talking about newer ones but i'm not sure if any projects were completed yet.

The designer does love Metroid but Cave Story is way too linear.
I specifically remember playing it because someone told me it was a Metroidvania. Man was I disappointed. Sure there's a few elements that are similar but no, not a Metroidvania
