I would recommend Metal Slugs 1 through 3 for 1cc escapades and at least one playthrough on 4 through 6... I don't think 6 is running on old enough hardware for it to be retro though, but I'm far too lazy to go look it up.

The raptors in JP were all bred male so they couldn't reproduce, but partly because of filling the gaps with frog DNA and partly because "nature finds a way!" some of them switched and laid eggs and that's who you play in the game. Compared with everyone else I played the PCE version. It's different and more faithful to the PC-98 version. Also voice is not by Hayashibara Megumi but by Kouda Mariko, although it took a while for me to notice, I'm ashamed.
I need to replay the Mega CD version one of these days.
