>starts steam big picture on boot
>great setup
>need similar frontend for emulation

Must be controller controllable and preferable big icons or text.

Lakka is what you'll probably go with. It's much more attractive than RetroArch although Hyperspin is the coolest IMHO

Seconding launchbox. Its pretty neat. They have a "steam bigpicture" style ui in the paid version, but I havent tried it yet.

Hyperspin seems geared towards cabs -loud and obnoxious attract mode.

You can use rocketlauncher without hyperspin and load games from there. Rocketlauncher itself is pretty decent and does have quite a bit of features, but there are a few quirks to it which annoy me. Using launchbox right now and liking it.
