You know who makes cool games? Taito. So let's talk about them.
After Sega, Taito made the best 3D sprite-scaling games. Like Night Striker, which I recommend to all fans of Space Harrier.
What are your favorite games from Taito?

If you enjoy arena shooters at all you owe it to yourself to play Dead Connection. It's literally an unlicensed version of The Untouchables. Also, one of the best games for destructible/interactive scenery ever.

Elevator Action Returns is a very good one, I got Taito Legends 2 on PS2 primarily for that.

BUBBLE
FUCKIN'
BOBBLE
Psychic Force is seriously underrated. It's a real shame it didn't take off as one of their major franchises because it was just so damned far ahead of its time in 1995.
Hell, even today there aren't many games of its kind, so technically it's STILL ahead of our time!
RayForce is one of my favorite games of all time. It's not just a shooting game, it's a half-hour long piece of seamless 2D animation.
Yearly reminder that Vertexer remains undumped and exclusively in the hands of scumbag retro speculators

Space Invaders, without a doubt. One of the games closest to me from my childhood. My favorites are the one from 1999 for PS1/N64/PC, and the arcade one from 1995, known as "The Attack of Lunar Loonies". The first game is almost 40 years old, can you believe it?
Whatever happened to Taito? They were without a doubt one of the biggest, most prolific game developers, and then they just vanished before being bought by Square.

Darius Burst: Chronicle Saviours is really good dude. I won't sugercoat the price tag and say it's worth all THAT, but it will totally be worth picking up once Steam/PSN has its next big sale.
>>3293792
Same that happened to all japanese developers, they couldn't compete with the west.
>>3293254
Yo. What do you guys think about the Taito Legends compilations?
>>3293643
Ugh yes. I started playing this last year on Saturn and consider it my GOTY cause everything surprised me and gave me smiles all around. And now I'm hunting for a PCB whenever a legit one will show up. Love it.
late 80's to 90's was when taito hit its peak, imo
>all this good taste
damn nigs
I'll be safe and say Darius, any of the arcade titles are awesome.
I 100%'d this thing, it's like over 100 levels.
>>3293808
You mean they couldn't compete against the larger Japanese developers. Capcom, Konami, and Square are the big three that are still around today, most of the others are either dormant or bankrupted. I still blame the PS1 for ruining video games, everything suddenly became more about being for older audiences and not as colorful as older games.

Congratulations! I haven't played this game yet, but I imagine that level count would wear on you quite a bit.
Speaking of completionisim, here's one game that's bound to drive anyone who attempts such a thing insane. 101 alternate endings. Semi-randomly generated levels. It's a hella neat game, but I would never have the willpower to try such a thing.

>they couldn't compete with the west.
lol
Have you played Gunbuster? It's an awesome arcade first-person shooter. You move around 3D stages with an 8-way joystick, and aim and shoot with a positional gun. Pointing the gun at the side of the screen lets you turn left and right. Excellent game, and very ahead of its time.

No relation to the anime, other than that they're both cool.

Parasol Stars (PCE)
Cadash (PCE)
Ninja Warriors Again (SNES)

Jesus christ, picked up, that looks the balls.
yesterday was my birthday
got shitfaced wandering around manhattan and went to a barcade and played the fuck out of some bust-a-move oh god it was great
Liquid Kids is really cool. Really overlooked.
Darius Gaiden, G-Darius, Rayforce, Raystorm, Elevator Action Returns, and Metal Black. Night Striker is great too. Loved that Zuntata sound too.
>>3295190
>Ninja Warriors Again
That was Natsume. Damn good game though.
>>3293254
I hate how short the levels are, they end just when you are getting in your groove. I like that its a fairly easy game, though (at least the Saturn version is). Not impossible like Galaxy Force 2.
For laughs, check out the Sega CD version. The resolution is scaled down by at least half..
Never understood the love for that rainbow game desu
Metal Black is proof that STGs are games with the most artistic merit to them. What an astonishing ending that was.
>ctrl+f chase
>no results
Maybe the best sprite-based driving game after Out Run. SCI and Super Chase are great too, and maybe someday I'll find the 2007 Chase HQ 2.
>>3294194
god this game is the fuckin shit
one of the first arcade games i emulated via raine back in the early 2000s
>>3296925
Holy shit I played this game so much as a kid. Although getting hit with arrows kinda scared me cause the arrow would stick out of him as he flailed to his death. Kinda creeped me out.

Enjoyed the way JRPG's are supposed to enjoyed, one story event at a time before going to school.
>>3293407
EA2 Is one of my favorite games. Stylish, not too hard, and chock full of nice little details.
The TL2 port messes up the machine gun firing rate, but you'd never want to use it over the rocket launcher anyway.

Memories has everything Legends 1/2 had, and more. Including Night Striker
They had some strange game choices on them though (2 Joukan had Dino Rex of all things.)
Does anyone else enjoy Raimais?
>>3293683
Holy fuck, that looks amazing. How much money do we need to pool to get it dumped?
