I do agree except for the fact it gets really repetitive after a while. I'm shortly after the point where you get the flamethrower and I feel it's really taken a nosedive in tension. Does it pick up again later?

Survival Horror is a genre split in two, and it's hard to speak for first person ones which are completely different; but yes, as far as AITD/RE style go Dino Crisis 1 is the very best.
It may not be the scariest, but it is the best as far as survival gameplay go. It goes as hardcore as it can be without making players go away.
An example: in RE you get one key to unlock several doors. In DC, for each locked door, you need two keys as well as figuring out a password with the help of a doc file to find as well. And we still love the game.
Anyone else played Very Hard difficulty of the PC version ? I think it might also be on DC. The funny thing is that I actually found it easier, you can die more easily, but you also have access to stronger ammo more easily...
