Way better the controls would be simplified so much. The NES had the perfect amount of buttons. The Sega Genesis ruined gaming by introducing an extra button. The kinect saved gaming by removing all buttons.

-Unskippable intro level, with forced defeat (and the baster is slow to kill you) and slow dialogs.
-Need to go to Chill Penguin's stage first to grab the dash and start having fun. Otherwise, you'll miss a ton of things and be in backtrack hell. Have to kill yourself thrice and continue if you want to start with a different Reploid after getting the boots.

Are you sure? Because the first stage in Super Mario BROS was intentionally designed to be as intuitive as possible; it's not a huge stretch to say the same of MMX. It very well could be an accident for all I know, I don't have access to the DesDoc, but it's not impossible.
