Because the purpose of genre names is to give people a general idea of what kind of game it is. Genre distinctions always work best when everyone knows what they refer to, so using the most widely accepted term makes the most sense.
Less than 0.3% of English speaking people use the term belt scoller over beat em up. So trying to insist both terms are equally valid is ridiculous. Saying we should use more than one term to describe a genre is equally silly since all it does is add confusion to the mix.
When you're in Japan or talking in Japanese, feel free to use the term they prefer and use more commonly. But doing so on a predominantly English site is both pretentious and pointless.
