Meets and greets /vr/, I'm looking for some RPGS with elements of Hindu and/or Middle Eastern mythology in them. I don't mind WRPG or JRPG games either. I know right off the bat we can scratch off Final Fantasy and the SaGa games.
Really appreciate it and I'm very curious if some WRPGs have what I'm looking for.
Thanks!
bumping of interest
Megaten has everything.
XZR/Exile

fuck off cunt
also lost souls of tong nou?
First game that comes to mind with hindu themes is Skyblazer, but it isn't an RPG.
TAO The Way is a Famicom RPG that has a mixture of eastern mythologies and religions in it, but mostly buddhist, though it has some hindu deities in it such as Ganesh. It has a fan translation. I recommend it if you want to play a really weird RPG, but it can be pretty cryptic and the fan translation is so-so.
Prince of Persia
Megami Tensei takes concepts from every mythology you can think of.

Played Skyblazer a couple of weeks ago. It's surprisingly good, specially taking into account that it's a somewhat obscure game.
Are all the old wrpgs like Ultima, Wizardry etc. based on European myth or do they change it up with Eastern stuff too?
>>3263987
sol moonrage
The Mesopotamian Mythology is the best, and there are no games that utilize it.
>>3264117
You're right man. Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy is all I can think of.
>>3264117
As >>3264046 said, Megaten incorporates pretty much every existing mythology.
Treasure of the Rudras? I remember it having mantras as spells and some Eastern mythos stuff..
There is this Famicom game that is set in India and is about hinduism. I've tried to remember the name for a long time but I haven't found it again yet.
>>3264098
Wizardy has a staggering amount of Japanese-developed titles so I wouldn't be surprised at all if any games took an Eastern angle.
>>3263987
Defenders of Oasis is a JRPG on Game Gear based around Arabian Nights and the like.
One of your party members is even a genie in a lamp, if I remember right.
Not an RPG, shooter and not sure if this counts but the first Choaniki game had 2 protagonists modelled after ancient Indian aristocrats. That was before the game got all homoerotic and goofy.
As for middle-eastern themes, there's Magic of Scheherazade for the Famicom/NES which was an action-RPG by Culture Brain and one of their few not-mediocre titles.
The Magic of Scheherazade is an NES game that is based on that kind of stuff.

>Al-Qadim: The Genie's Curse
Is it worth playing ? Back then it always crashed on my computer after a few minutes.
>>3264284
>posts this degeneracy in a forum about oldschool gaming (ie gaming with a lot of East Asians)
top honk
anyway i third the MT/SMT games. they have a lot of middle eastern demons in their games
>>3264538
just be thankful it didn't crash your computer into the world trade center
Sorry about your thread OP, it was interesting while it lasted.
Hindu mythology is so coloeful and fascinating. I didn't realize I wanted a full rpg based on it until now.
I think Asuras are somewhat pupular as enemies.
>>3263987
Do Dragon Ball (pre-Z) games count? The early stuff was based on Journey to the West, which is inspired by Chinese/Indian mythology.
Indian culture is closer to East Asia than Middle East desu.
>>3264581
There are Dragon Ball RPGs?
>>3263987
Persona. The games before the series went to weeabo highschool shitland (1, 2 Innocent Sin, and 2 Eternal Punishment). You can get deities and mythological creatures from all around the world on your team.
Not an rpg but apparently Super Mario Bros.: http://www.hindukids.org/hinduism_and_video_games.shtml

There is Maharaja for the NES.

Wow, this board has suddenly become shit. Might be off to look for a new one soon.

We have a report button for a reason. Use it.
Shin Megami Tensei games. Not retro, but Krishna is very important in smt 4 final in particular.
This rendering is so sex
Hey OP, many have suggested SMT which is fine, but take a closer look to Digital Devil Saga specifically
Deals a lot with the concept of Samsara and reincarnation while keeping an overall Hindi "feel" on the visual aspect
>>3264594
I think so

Action RPG series Exile.
>>3264098
They don't use that much mythology.
Lord British created his own religion for Ultima.
Wizardry had a bunch of weeaboo elements like samurai and ninja.
Most of the stuff came from D&D.
>>3265571
>D&D.
>They don't use that much mythology
Overwhelmingly naïve.
>>3265574
I meant they didn't implement things beyond taking them from D&D or Tolkien.
>>3265578
Irrelevant. Tolkien, and by extent, everything related to him is the result of varied European mythology.
>>3264573
It really is. An RPG based on it could really go anywhere, shame it's never used much.
>>3265786
Not to mention the music.
>>3264538
It's ok. Grab a walkthrough, though. How the hell you're supposed to know some of the things you have to know and do is beyond me.
Old games are like that.
>>3265786
Another underused setting for RPGs is latin america old civilizations, like Aztec and Maya. I was playing Aztec Gold and thinking of how cool would be a classic RPG based around it.
One thing that bother's me in old games is that the arabs don't look like arabs, the indians don't look like indians... I like old anime style, but the characters are always white.
>>3268390
Worlds of Ultima: Savage Empire has Aztecs featured prominently along with natives from most continents, neanderthals and lizard people.
>>3268390
Good point. I can't think of shit using those cultures outside of fucking Tekken 3...
A game like Daggerfall meets Hindu/Eastern/Middle Eastern mythology would be pretty sweet.
>>3268927
Especially if it had features like being an avatar, getting stronger through death and rebirth, changing your shape and shit. I'd play the fuck out of that, make it so.
>>3268390
>Aztec Gold
Sorry, Aztec ADVENTURE, Nazca '88: The Golden Road to Paradise in Nippon.
Pretty charming Zelda clone.
>>3264581
>>3268183
Also based on Journey to the West.
Just want to mention that hindu mythology is pretty fucking metal and more games should use it. Hopefully not GoW though. And Kali is best girl
>>3269891
>Hopefully not GoW though
That's exactly how I would picture a game based off it to be. A sleep inducing God of War clone.
