what are the best Megadrive/Genesis games that get right to the point and don't screw around
I don't want to explore or backtrack or pick things off of menus or read mission briefings
That's... Arcade, right?
That's what we call it, right? Arcade-like games?

I love Mystic Defender. Also check out Revenge of Shinobi and Ghostbusters. Typical top-tier games that fit your criteria are Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier and (less so, but I'm working on it for myself) Alisia Dragoon

This. Look at any 'Top Genesis Games' list and ignore Phantasy Star/Shining Force. You can't go wrong.

See I think of it as being NES action-like because after a certain point you didn't see so many single player games in arcades, and fighting games took over everything
But yeah

i seriously thought "arcade" as genre (in any console) used in magazines some years ago was just a loose term for horizontal/vertical scrollers that weren't bullet-hel or platformers... so basically what i later got to calling side scrollers

Ristar
The Sonic Games
Streets of Rage series
Gunstar Heroes

Certainly not Ranger X. Love that game but there is exploration and waiting inbetween all that action.
