FE4 is a notable game for having some interesting game mechanics and a memorable plot twist, however the actual gameplay is far from the best in the series. There's a lot less tactical depth and the battles are a lot more repetitive than other FE games. And while the story is innovative, it could be improved with additional text for characterization, worldbuilding, etc.

FE5 is easily the best in the series in terms of gameplay and has one of the better stories, but it is still far from perfect.
