Recommend some PS1 games please.
I know about Resident Evil, MGS, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro etc. but are there are any more less well known games, franchises that are really good and worth playing?
I got a chipped PS1 recently to help play games which are not really viable to buy e.g. Harmful Park.
Thanks.
THPS1 or 2 are essential, imo.
Tenchu 1 or 2
Difficult as fuck
But a pretty fun game at that
>>3250309
It's only difficult because you can't see your surroundings due to the camera being zoomed in too closely, which leads to countless "leap of faith" deaths.

Einhander

fuuuuuuuck yes
When i was young , I only could play games from ads discs in magazines.
And one of those hames was a piece of silent bomber. Made me emulate the game some years ago, pretty fucking good
were there ever any attachments for the port in the back besides gamesharks?
>>3250678
There was a link cable that worked with Wipeout 3 and maybe a few other games? Can't remember anything else.
>>3250690
bushido blade
you could have first person duels
>>3250678
>>3250702
Wasn't this thing unable to play GBC games?
Vigilante 8 and Twisted Metal 2 for some vehicular arena shooting. Vigilante 8: Second Offense isn't as good but you can give it a try if you enjoyed the first.
Thanks for the recommendations.
>>3250297
I'll check this out. I already have Tomba, THPS2.
Einhander is a must have, can't post image because duplicate file on another thread though

Twisted Metal 2 was a big part of my teenage years, playing against friends in the arenas. Each character has such interesting special weapons and there's also a standard turret gun that works at all times (even though its weak as hell) and missiles and other stuff. I can't remember who I used to play as, but I do remember liking Specter for the homing missile, even though it can be cheap as hell
>>3250267
Panzer Bandit. Not as good as Guardian Heroes but pretty good clone nonetheless.
>>3250267
Suikoden I
Suikoden II
>>3250297

This, if you like shoot em ups. Don't forget R-Type Delta.
It's like there aren't really that many original games on the PSX. There are a few well known gems, but it's like with most games, be it sports / racing / shootemup / fighting I end up thinking "I could be playing a modern game from this genre and it would just be objectively better."
>>3251791
>PSX
>>3250267
kings field its the predecessor to demons souls make sure to get the American version its harder to find than the jap version also more expensive

LSD Dream Emulator is some fuck
Vib Ribbon (though that's on ps3 for $1 seemingly all the time)
Ridge Racer 4 is my favorite racing game on the system
The Fear Effect games are kind of clunky but worth playing
>>3250267
ape escape
>>3250290
this x1000
Breath of Fire III was and is still my favorite PS title.

You never even played PS1
>>3252646
serious question: why would you do this
Are they better in some way? Never owned a memecast
>>3253847
Most PSX to DC ports were just the original game with a higher resolution better framerate and no jaggies.
>>3253902
the weaknesses of PSX 3D rendering are pretty obvious/well known though. you make it seem insignificant but i call a big difference.
Driver + Driver 2
>>3250267
MediEvil dammit.
Fucking MediEvil.
>>3254636
my afroamerican friend.
Twisted Metal 4
Dino Crisis 2
Tomba 2
Herc's Adventures
Big Ol' Bass 2
Best PS1 games imo
>>3250690
A few early games had link cable support, like the two Destruction Derby games.
>>3250690
I remember playing Red Alert with my brother over link cable.
Don't play this unless you like fun games.
Why hasn't someone said chrono trigger/cross yet. Trigger was snes originally, but I believe there was a ps1 port

Crash fanboys are butthurt because they only played their Poochie games during childhood so now they hold a vendetta against superior Jumping Flash, don't take them seriously, just laugh at them.

Someone link that PDF.

I actually have 3...not retro
Anyways...
Pic related.
This is a port of a TG-16 title. It plays about the same on both.
This game had a heavy influence on the Advance Wars games.
Enjoy!

This. The sequel is God tier too.
>>3257974
Thanks, you're a perfect example of the kind of people I was referring to.
Don't know if they've been recommended or not but
Synicate Wars
Suikoden I and II
Valkyrie Profile
Battle Hunter and Top Shop (fun as hell with friends)
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Bushido Blade 2
>ctrl+f
>no alundra
save a disc for this senpai
>>3250694
bushido blade 2 was way better imho
>>3252092
all the gex gecko games were badace
FUTURE
FUCKING
COP
L.A.P. FUCKING. D
Also PS1 probably has some of the best light-gun games ever, if you can get a CRT and a guncon. Time Crisis and Point Blank are must-haves.

Didn't Advance Wars/Famicom Wars come first?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famicom_Wars
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nectaris_series
If you enjoyed any of the Strike games before (Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, etc) there's Future Cop: LAPD which plays similarly but features a transformable bipedal mech. It supports co-op and a neat vs mode that reminds me of MOBAs long before they were a thing.
>>3258313
I should've refreshed before posting. That's 2 for Future Cop though.
If you have an itch for space dogfighting check out the Colony Wars series.
Motherfucking Air Combat!
>>3258332
I guess Famicon Wars did come out first. The Nectaris article is misleading with:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Madness
>while in Japan, Military Madness was the precursor to Intelligent Systems' Wars series of turn-based strategy games.[4]
Not even kidding
Parasite Eve 1,2
Xenogears
>>3258524
I love the review on gamefaqs. It's by an actual heavy equipment operator who says the game is realistic enough to transfer the skills to real life.

Lunar Silver Star Story
Civilization II (seriously charming even if it's an inferior version)
Breath of Fire 3
Suikoden 2
Vandal Hearts 1+2
Grandia
>>3251561
comfy game
>>3259875
>inferior version
Inferior to what? Isn't that the most acclaimed Civ until 4?
>>3250267
Wild 9, Dino Crisis 2 and Parasite Eve 2 are particularly good. Pic also related if you appreciate good bad games that have heaps of stupid cheat codes that make them a hilarious mess.
Whilst we're on the subject, any recs for JP-exclusive titles? Preferably ones that don't require a particularly deep understanding of the language.

definitely play Echo Night.
Echo Night 2 as well, there is a fan translation for that.
