Love the Power Strike games. For those not familiar they are Compile games in the Aleste series.
Also, if you go with actual hardware and get a Light Phaser the Master System had way better gun games than the NES. Wanted, Dead Angle, and Shooting Gallery are a must.

I'd say Castlevania rip-off with additional annoyances and uninspired level design. Pretty good graphics, but it just feels like a lame Castlevania knock-off.
Wonder Boy in Monster Land is a pretty damn good though easier and watered-down arcade port, Choplifter is fun, and Footbag in California Games will always be entertaining.
