It's done! time ago I purchased the APE SMW guides and disbinded them so I could scan the pages. It's done now. I'll begin work on the second volume as soon as I can.

• The essential color grading and page straightening is done, but I wasn't able to do 3mm bleeds.
• The size of a typical spread is 358.61 × 128.14 mm at 600dpi, the exception pages being the map spread and its backside, the timeline page. They're a bit wider.
• I did a lot of work to remove all the shit and stains the previous owner left to the pages, but if there's any glaring errors, let me know.
• I'm now left with a bunch of pages and I don't dare to rebind it so if someone wants the disbinded book, I can send it to you via mail.
• If someone could translate the comics and developer interviews, that'd be grand. The entirety of the book would of course be better, but that might be too much to ask for.

1.9 GB might be too much for too many, so here's a lower res version that's only 24.8 MB:

The full non-compressed piece is here:

Cardstock?
>>
>>3234498
Nice Job! Much appreciated. I'm glad these aren't lost to the ages.

I think there is a website called the covers project or something similar that would love them.
>>
thanks scanbro, been waiting for this
>>
holy shit he came back

Thanks OP, we all appreciate your hard work.

>>3235379
this, I use it for prototyping board game pieces.

I like 80-100lb. cardstock myself (not sure why they call it that, it's just the terminology used).
>>
>>3236207
covers project is one for game covers and manuals I think, I know there is one for magazines though, and I'm sure they'd love this collection here.

This is the first time this guide book was scanned, and it's also in such good quality. OP, you're the man.

I love when /vr/ actually does cool things like this.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Apparently we don't have a hair dryer anymore, so I can't disbind the second volume immediately. But when I can, it'll be over much quicker, I'd imagine. The second volume is in pristine condition – it has zero markings on any page, so all I really have to do is scan, straighten and do color grading. No more aggravating hours with the healing brush tool.

I wish I could help.
In this project I used a HP Scanjet 3800 which is a piece of shit. Scanning took a lot of time and always gave subpar results - I believe the final results look good only because every page went under heavy Photoshopping. For comparison, here's a typical page. Mind you, it was as straight as I could set it under the glass.

Only after heavy retouching I was able to get what I felt comfortable leaving to the spread. See pic.

For the second volume I intend on using a XEROX Workcentre 7120. They probably cost too much for an ordinary consumer but the Advertising Agency I work in has one so it's probably the best I can find at this time. Its scan area is bigger and it's probably better than the old scanjet on every other aspect too.

For consumer level scanners I can only suggest you read reviews or ask /co/ for another scanbro's opinion.
>>
>>3234498

Dude, thanks alot man. Seriously!
>>

You photoshopped every pic to make it nicer? Damn, that is dedication. Thanks man, the effort paid off.

I pretty much had to. This was the first time this was scanned so if the options are doing it the half-assed way or the right way, even if the latter might take more time, why not do it?
>>
>>3239439
Well you went above and beyond. Most people would've left it the half-assed way.
>>
I just wanted to thank you for your effort. For months, I've seen repeated threads wondering if you'll ever be back: many, if not most people thought you wouldn't. It's inspiring to see you making such a big, meticulous effort to let us enjoy the book, and I'm sure all of us are thankful. This is why /vr/ is the best board: we get shit done, even if it takes time.
>>
>>3240176
only on /vr/ does it take months to do something as simple as buying and scanning a book
>>
>>3240187
That's because /vr/ may as well be the only board with actual adults with families and jobs, and having actual lives does slow down the already lenghty, tiring process of taking apart a long book and scanning and photoshopping every single page.
>>
>>3240187
Did you not see the posts where he touched up each page manually? That takes days if not weeks alone.

If I remember correct the far left one goes

Top Panel: "What so great about Mario nii-san"
Second Panel: "My dick is bigger than his"
Third Panel:
Fourth Panel: "Hey turtle" "I said my dick is bigger"
