Let's have a Strife thread since it just released on GOG.

I like it more than DOOM

You might have liked it better than Doom, but you really should consider lumping it together with other games of the same style. Even the Doom thread has other things popping up.

One of my favorite 2.5D FPS definitely.

I think its one of those games you can look back on and definitely see how it was before its time. Shame it didn't do well commercially. The developers thought outside the box and came up with good ideas but was ultimately ignored.

I don't like the color schemes in this game. It's too hotdog and malachite.

>and definitely see how it was before its time
..not really though, considering Ultima Underworld and system shock came many years before, and just 3 months after Daggerfall was released.

But's a cool game. The really unique setting is great.
>>
>>3229915
Yeah it was, cinematic FPSes have become standard now, Strife was screwed by not having a Saturn/Playstation version.
>>
>>3229915
Don't forget Terminator Future Shock.

Strife didn't really invent anything.
But it's good, everything it offers makes you forget it is technically inferior compared to FPS of its time.
>>
>>3229915
I see where you're coming from. Yet Strife is still considered to be the father of RPG/FPS'. I would argue it was the forbear to System Shock 2 and Deus Ex. Although the game was crude in its implementation
>>
>>3230917
Less crude than some modern FPS games, which are simply plain...

Got it on Steam & I've no complaints, other than getting lost pretty easily in some parts, especially in the sewers/castle

Are you sure strife didn't invent nasty endings for cheating? How about homebase levels?

And how can future shock be forgotten in 7 posts?
>>

>Are you sure strife didn't invent nasty endings

Honestly I doubt it, maybe the first FPS to do so though.

>How about homebase levels?
Again maybe as far as FPS go.
>>
>>3233754
I said nasty endings for cheating, it had a good ending and a bad ending for the legitimate paths.

How about homebases for action games? The thing about it is that it really wasn't that much of an RPG, it wove in just the level-web order and NPC interactions into an FPS, sure there were 2d action games with towns in them, but those were typically action-RPGs, and they'd often get labelled as adventure or action-adventure games.
