ITT: retro games that have a timeless aesthetic
choose from here sempai
>>3222968
That game is awful. Just because it blew your mind when you were 10 doesn't mean it's a good game.
>>3223438
I think you're on the wrong board mate, in any case, by no reasonable human beings' standard is Suikoden II not a good game.
Also: Alien Soldier.
>>3222968
OP, your game sucks.
ActRaiser 2
>>3223443
I don't know anon I can read a pretty heavy book in like 10 hours, but suikoden wants me to take like 50
but is suikoden really worth 50 fucking hours
I think objectively it probably fucking isn't
I mean maybe if you're 14 or you have autism or you have depression or you live in a broken home and suffer from frequent bouts of mental illness as a cause or consequence, it's probably a fucking worthwhile way to not feel like killing yourself for a while, especially if otherwise nothing else is available
but to be perfectly honest they could have condensed it to fit into ten hours and really benefited a lot from not wasting my fucking time
>>3223473
Well this was a sobering read
I'll acknowledge that it's not a short game, but more than that I am worried for you, anon.
I hope things are well for you
good luck
>>3223512
Anon I am more worried about you than you are worried about me because right now it sounds like you think life is okay and that means you are going to find out that it isn't and you aren't going to be prepared
just tell me that you know you are never safe and I will rest easy knowing that you are slightly more safe than if you didn't know that
>>3223515
Yeah, life may not be okay, and I may not always be safe either.
Now rest easy pal.
>>3223490
it's sad that every thread in /VR/ finish in ppl throwing shit to each other instead of follow the thread.
Also Kirby always looks good (except on 3DS and Wii)
>>3223532
It's /v/ cross-posters.
>>3223538
I think it's an inherent problem of /vr/. Every thread tends to degenerate into shitposting about which Final Fantasy is better or why either emulationfags or collectors need to kill themselves.
Anyways here's my contribution. Tales of Phantasia is one of my favorite games on SNES when it comes to graphics. It just lacks the GBA version's amazingly cheesy voices.

IT ENDS HEAH! INDIGNATION!
>>3223652
To add to that, I'd like to mention that games from the SNES era in general have a pretty 'timeless' aesthetic. The NES era had a lot of very bland-looking games and the PS1 era had early 3D which could be hideous at times, although both eras had their beautiful games.
SNES and Genesis on the other hand had amazing graphics, probably because people had a lot of experience with sprite-based graphics by then.
Here's Comix Zone for the Genesis.
Dumb penguinposter's game has great aesthetics.
>>3222968
Faxanadu
Super Hydlide
>>3223835
I miss LucasArts Point'n Click Adventures
Sham & Macksh. One of the best eyepleasers on DOS. I like Sam's cute dog face with his tiny button eyes.
Curse of Monkey Island, because you're essentially playing a cartoon. And cartoons only show age if they're either black & white or have a blackface character.
>>3222968
Wolfenstein 3D
Doom
Quake (in the design sense, anyway)
Diablo
Starcraft
Castlevania Dracula X
Zero Tolerance
True Lies
Indiana Jones & The Fate Of Atlantis
Syndicate Wars
>>3223827
What's with the penguinposter?
>>3223921
How new are you?
>>3223970
No, I've seen the cuck, I just wonder what's wrong with him.
Is the fatty penguin stuffing his face supposed to represent who he is as a person?
>>3224062
Yes
>>3222985
Cute boy
>>3224098
>not knowing skeletal-chan
>>3223452
10/10
Especially next to its counterpart X4 that had an awful mix of handrawn sprites and CG ones.
>>3224062
>Is the fatty penguin stuffing his face supposed to represent who he is as a person?
He always posts in response to people not knowing something, calling them newfags or youtube babbies. I have no idea what the dopey penguin is supposed to add.
>>3224385
And Skullmonkyes
>>3224401
Fuck you,I thought no one could beat my post of Neverhood!
>>3224306
I think it's supposed to mean that he thinks the poster is so stupid, that it's funny and entertaining, so he's eating popcorn like it's a show.
At least he's been showing up less recently than that Fire Emblem shithead.
Street Fighter II
Super Mario Bros 3
>>3223903
Wha-what's that on Roll-chan's face?
>>3222968
Ape Escape
MGS3
SOTN
Rondo of Blood
Ex Ranza
I don't think any game since has come close to this level of art direction. The only game I'd place in the same category is Abe's Oddysee which came out the same year.
>>3223907
>>3224385
These are both 90s af. Not a criticism, since I like the style of both games, they just reflect a lot of stylistic conventions of the time.
>>3223662
I tend to agree, 16-bit was best bit. It would've been nice though, if the 32-bit generation had stuck to 2D sprite games, like the Saturn almost did.
I know I'm being greedy but I could've really done with another higher quality console generation of sprite based games.
>>3223897
>Sham & Macksh. One of the best eyepleasers on DOS. I like Sam's cute dog face with his tiny button eyes.
- By Tommy, age 9
>>3223473
>he likes stuff I don't like, waaah waaaah
Nah fuck off kid. It's a perfect length for what it is and it's easily beatable in 20 hours. Hell, in order to get do Clyde's quest you have to beat the game in like under 20 hours. Quit fucking whining and go play some FPS if you don't like longer rpgs.
>>3222968
>that massive dragon
>that perspective
I need to play Suikoden II now.
>>3224895
Riven looks borderline photorealistic. All of the architecture in that game is wonderful. As a kid I didn't even care about the puzzles, I just liked wandering around Riven.
Timeless game
>>3225404
If you're gonna play Suikoden II, make sure to play Suikoden I first. 2 is somewhat of a direct sequel. They're both well well worth playing.
PC-Engine VNs will never look bad.
>>3225412
Thanks anon
>>3223903
Megaman Dash is the reason I feel in love with low-poly models, no lie. Especially the ones with unfiltered low-res textures that are essentially pixelart, and have shading drawn on them.
>>3224895
>art direction
Please, I've seen better art in Jap PC VNs from the early 90s. Shit looks mad generic.
>>3226002
Mate no need to be a cunt. I love Jap vns, but Riven has very creative architecture.
TRANSLATION NEVER
>>3226085
Every time I see this game, my need-to-play meter rises.
>>3225391
I agree, 2D ended just when it was getting good. But my "alternate video game universe" theory is that the gaming market would have crashed again if 3D hadn't come along right about then. You'd have all these 32-bit systems with 500+ megs of storage and players would wonder why games didn't look better than samurai shodown or chrono trigger because there simply aren't enough talented designers in the industry to create graphics and experiences like those. It would have ended up a garbage fest of digitized actors and fmv games.
>>3226179
Can't even find good iso.
>>3226464
The only ISO I remember finding was one with MP3 instead of WAV files
Saturn is doomed to have the worst of rips
>>3223473
that's the reason most games fucking suck. i can't put in more than 10 hours in a game.
>>3226274
>>3226464
Just buy it then. It's a $20 game.
>>3226485
Still works if you convert it to WAVE
>>3226664
Anon if you were a nice person you would dump and upload the game
>>3226664
Can you read japanese, anon?
>>3225601
> bitch
ABSOLUTE MADMAN
>>3226717
>Anon if you were a nice person you would dump and upload the game
I'm sorry but did you just say you want to pirate a $20 game? Either get a job or enjoy your iso/mp3.
>>3226781
I think none of us can speak japanese anyway. It would be good for a translation project
>>3226781
>I don't know how
FTFY
>>3222968
ALL OF THEM
>>3226819
>I don't know how to type what I'm looking for into Google and hit Enter
>>3226781
You're not a nice person
>>3226858
If you bothered doing as much as sweeping the streets for half a day you could make enough money to buy the game. Even if you lived in a buttfuck small town in Eastern Europe (like I do).
Stop being a little bitch.
>>3226972
Working for other people is something only a bitch does
if you were a man you would live beyond society's means, you would never pay for anything, you would only work for yourself
you lost the ability to stand on equal ground with the ones who make the rules
>>3226834
>I think I'm talking to the same person
>>3226485
>Saturn is doomed to have the worst of rips
This thing had boxes designed to destroy CDs after all.
>>3227134
lol wait what
>>3226987
>if you were a man you would live beyond society's means, you would never pay for anything, you would only work for yourself
Place where I come from, they call those people bums.

Bitchin'.
Sounds like he's dragging a moose up there!
>flush sounds
Fucking loved that game.
