Thread for the original TR series (first gameplay stories, anything related to its story line, etc.)

After playing the N64 3d games being so smooth graphically and engine wise I was like what the fuck when I finally tried Tomb Raider. That game was so hyped up and when I played it even on a old ass television it the world looked like a giant fucking puddle of quick sand. And you could barely even jump while moving forward and shit. Having to turn while standing still and shit. What am I missing?

I heard there is a cheat code where you can play as Lara in the nude!!

The controls are for grid-based platforming. Think of Tomb Raider as a 3D cinematic platformer.

Think of games like Prince of Persia, Flashback, and Abe's Oddysee.

As soon as you understand that Tomb Raider is one of those games but in 3D, you will understand the controls.

It doesn't leave anything to chance or physics. It's not a game about timing button presses just right.

If you try to play it like it's mario 64, you will hate it. Play it like it's Flashback.

Anyone else who ended up hoarding like crazy?

Yeah, by the time I finished my 1st playtrough in TR1, I had well over 30 medikits of both sizes still left unused in my inventory, because I spammed gamesaves like crazy (PC gamer here), and always anticipated that "one big bossfight" where I'd need them more. Turned out that bossfight never came. This game was definitely generous with the medikits.

Nope, just an old wives tale.

Got tomb raider 3 for PS1 when I was five. The levels were too dark and scary so I just fucked around the mansion the whole time

I tried 3 after I got it off the PSN on my PS3 several years ago, it was fun but I hated that you had to find crystals to save. 2 let you save anytime, anywhere, its just that you only had one save slot, but that's better than limited save crystals that you have to use sparingly. I don't know what they were thinking when they made the change in save system from 2 to 3.

PC is entirely different though, multiple save slots, can save anywhere at any point. Much better way of handling it IMO. I'm playing 3 on PC now and it's much more enjoyable being able to save anywhere.

And yeh, 3 is pretty damn dark in terms of lighting, spamming pistol as a light source doesn't create as bright a muzzle flash as it did in 1 or 2.
