I recently spent 16 hours in airports and realized it was time to really think about handheld emulation.

Suggestions on something that will smoothly run NES, SNES, GB kind of stuff? Good battery life, headphones, etc and isn't brick huge?

Softmod a new 3ds and you're set. SNES or older is great, and GBA and GBC emulation is flawless, because the 3ds has actual GBA hardware buried inside it
>>
>>3220364
Not much. At that size you have the dingoos and play. None of which run SNES smoothly in many cases. You either deal with that or get something bigger.

I got the jxd s5800 as was suggested here. So far I've tested the emulators for the systems you mentioned as well as PS1 and NDS, and they all run well. Battery lasts around 8 hours for me.

I have a Galaxy S5 with a weakening battery and I'm thinking of getting one of these. I know it's not as powerful, but there aren't that many devices like this asides from the Xperia Play.

Hell, if I knew the beginnings of hardware design I'd make something similar.
>>
DSi, DSiXL, 3DS, 3DSXL, N3DS

They all run emulators perfectly with a cheap €8 flash cart from Aliexpress

Could i use that as my actual phone on verizon?
>>

Second this for a cheap solution. The NDS can't do SNES like, at all, but it does Genesis and lower quite well. NES Games get squashed a little, but it really isn't bad for gaming-on-the-go.

Stick with the PSP instead.

DS really struggles with SNES emulation unless you have a a DSTWO flashcart which costs about the same as a DS.

I would recommend a New 3DS with Retroarch. The smaller version won't be brick huge.

Dingoo is also a pretty good choice, definitely cheaper than 3ds. PSP Snes emulation is ok, but not great. I personally had a lot of issues with the Xperia Play. The emulators and apps I wanted were spread across different versions of Android, updating to custom roms always broke something, and the cell service itself was really unreliable (may have just been a bad unit and of course you don't have to use it as a phone).
>>
>>3220364

heres a thought: just bring your laptop

Stop spreading misinformation. The DS's low res screen is shit for Megadrive emulation and the only decent emulator was abandoned and has lots of glitches. SNES is unplayable. NES is mostly OK but the low resolution screen has to squash the view. Gameboy emulators are mostly good, so is Master System.

They're like $30 (if you don't have one laying around), there's 100M of them in the world, it's just a cheap option. You know like exactly what I said.
>>3222618
You just agreed with the majority of my post (I said SNES is unplayable). I admittedly haven't done enough Genesis emulation on the DS to make a call on that, so I'll take your word. All DS emulators are abandoned at this point, I only recommended it as a low-cost, simple solution.

Really a 3ds or GP XD would be your best bet. The 3ds gets better battery life and costs slightly more. The gpXD costs a little less, has no support and gets slightly worse battery life. Obviously you get the benefits of DS/3ds games on the 3ds and native gba games. And Android shit on the GP XD. My personal choice (I have a similar issue) is a moga power pro controller with my droid turbo 2. The grip works phenomenally well, it's pretty small and lightweight, and it charges your phone while you play. At a full charge for both I could play psx/n64 literally 10hrs + straight with plenty of battery life left. I do own a n3ds xl and the emulation is fantastic but this has been far more convenient for me

The GCW Zero is the most recent in your pic's series and it's okay, though the buttons need a bit of love and I have autism about the SNES aspect ratio.
>>
>>3222995
Not OP but I would definitely just go with a smartphone and a controller if I had one.

I picked up a JXD S7800b a few months ago. Decent enough machine, however battery life is isn't great and poor wifi connection.

Since when?
First Ambassador games are known to be somewhat slow, aren't they?
>>
>>3224398
No, they play fine.

From what I understand, the processor that runs DS games is able to accurately simulate the processor the gba uses.
>>
>>3224413
> No, they play fine.
Well, I remember hearing about issues with GBA games on 3DS, I'll be glad to be wrong.
>>
>3DS with cf
Pretty good, can emulate everything up to GBA and you have some nice current (non vr) games
>PSP
Meh, struggles with SNES. GBA is flawless tho. Has great games too.
>Dingoo
One of the best values. Perfect SNES & GBA with Dingux, PS1 sucks, no N64. Too expensive now because they don't produce it anymore.
>gcw zero
Like the Dingoo in non-chink. Really baffles me how people purchase something like that. Just barely beats the A320 and even with the recent price increase of the Dingoo, it's still twice as expensive.
>OpenPandora (soon Pyra)
If you have the funds, this is the way to go. Emulates PS1 perfectly, N64 very well. The Pyra especially runs as fast as a current-gen smartphone (because ARM debian instead of lagdroid) and can do increadible multitasking. EvilDragon had a devboard at gamescom that ran Gimp, a megadrive emu and two instances of a PS1 emulator simulatinously. All fullspeed. Also don't forget the amazing ports of old PC games like Diablo II, Serious Sam etc.
>Nvidia Shield
Too large, Android is carbitch tier. Has exclusive Android games but they aren't vr.
>Android phone + controller
Probably the cheapest way to go. Battery life usually sucks but even the old can emulate N64 really well.

Posting some portable emulating machines now, starting with the Xperia Play

This man speaks the truth OP. Moga power controller with your phone is the cheapest, best way to go. Otherwise a N3DS
>>
>>3224550

I just bought the Xperia Play on Amazon, should be coming in soon.

It was either that or a hacked PSP Go which I would have bought if it were on Amazon. Hopefully I don't regret my decision.
