Welcome to the /vr/ dragon ball games thread.
Here you can
>Discuss retro dragon ball games>Discuss the anime preferably the ones that actually happened before 1999 just to keep the retro theme so obviously DB is definitely allowed but pls keep DBS shitposting out.
>Maybe a few of the modern games but keep it on the down low this IS /vr/ after all just don't go crazy.
Starting with the worst dragon ball game ever seriously this thing is a huge piece of shit. It is kind of fun at first but the difficulty curb completely kills that fun in seconds flat.
Even if you know about all the secret caves it doesn't help much with the intense difficulty.
You'd need some major skills to have any fun with this thing.
I wanted to enjoy it but I just couldn't.
>>3217842
>keep DBS shitposting out
What is the implication here? That shitposting about the other shows is okay? By the way, you should know that only total fags think it's funny to hide text behind spoiler tags.
>>3217854
Because DBS is a shitposting magnet right now. Have you seen /v/? Every single thread there's always like 5 people making like 50 posts are how shitty DBS is.
It's not good.
>>3217865
I mean if you'd rather not talk about the games and just have an entire thread dedicated to DBS

Am I the only one that thinks some of the better Dragon Ball games didn't come until after 1999?
I'm sorry but I feel once budokai and tenkaichi came to be things got a fuckton better.
Butoden is okay but it feels a little too slow for my tastes.
Are there any good Dragon Ball belt scrollers out there, similar to Streets of Rage and such?
>>3218408
You may have to do some digging. The only one I know of is a really shitty bootleg.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6XUbT5LHy0
Behold, dragon ball Z 5!Also if you don't mind there's also revenge of king piccolo for the Wii which is basically just a dragon ball beat em up.There's also Dragon Ball Sagas...but I tried it, it sucks dick.
>>3218447
I already have I was just answering a scrolling beat em up like how he asked in the post.
AA is great but it's more of a platformer than a beat em up.
>>3218460
I mean granted you beat shit up but this can be applied to any platformer with combat. He specifically asked for a beat em up similar to streets of rage, shit like final fight, river city ransom ect.
>>3218460
Theres not much platforming, though. Been a while since I played, but
>Fight enemies until game tells you to GO
>mash attack
>arcadey shmupish segments
>fighting game-esque segments for the tournaments
I don't really remember much platforming. Yeah, there are times you have to go through doors and jump up higher to climb like in Muscle Tower, but for the most part its a scroller.
>>3218415
> That period of uncertainty when you're not sure if meme
>>3217842
Shen Long no Nazo really is a shame. It could be super fun, but that fucking 'hunger' mechanic is utter garbage. Let's make you lose health constantly, it fits the character! That said, it's pretty damn fun with infinite health. Highly recommend a play through on an emulator or with a Game Genie.
>>3218809
> hunger mechanic
Haha, really? It does sound appropriate though
>>3217854
>I'm an autistic faggot who flips out over wording.
Obviously shitposting is always allowed dumbass. I think everyone is just tired of people bitching about DBS's animation quality.
>>3218819
Yeah, Goku's health drains like 1 point a second, it makes the whole game an RNG crap-shoot to get food items. It's a miracle if you can get past Yamcha's level without starving to death. Also the hit detection is very indiciative of the time-period, so boss fights are usually jumping, spamming and hoping you don't run out of health.
>>3218876
To follow up, it's worth noting that Shen Long no Nazo got a US release as 'Dragon Power'. They cut out some of the more tedious levels towards the end, and all the Dragon Ball references. It's actually more playable due to the level restructuring, but it loses most of its charm without the DB license.
I remember as a kid I really wanted to play DBZ: Legends. I never got too, was it any good?
>>3218889
People seem to agree it's a good adaptation of the source material. I played the Saturn version back then and remember it being boring A.F. (both evaluations could be compatible)
>>3218889
It is boring. You pretty much just press a direction and then a few buttons. The fights are fairly automated.
The story is true though, yep
>>3218889
Like people said, it's a good adaptation, but it's a very weird fighting game. You can either get really into it or find it really boring. Also it takes a while to know all the moves if you don't have a guide.
It's one of my favorite DB games, mostly because it was the only fighting game I played for most of 2000.
>>3218889
PLAY EVERY DBZ GAME EVER MADE
>>3218889
>played genesis and dc but not saturn
Am i missing out lads?
>>3218901
If you played on PAL then I could agree it would be pretty boring.
>>3218927
>fairly automated
Nigga in order to get the maximum score you must do lots of 1vs1 (while preserving the actual plot) and it's really fun especially when the opponent is a countering bitch. It gets your blood pumping to reach like 13 connects and to save that much ki not get exhausted and basically gift the round to the other guy.
Did you try SP Battles? That's some fast paced fightan right there.
>>3218393
>Butoden is okay but it feels a little too slow for my tastes.
Butouden 2 has a turbo mode
>>3218961
Welp i'm downloading that shit then Thanks for the heads up.
>>3218393
>I'm sorry but I feel once budokai and tenkaichi came to be things got a fuckton better.
If you like DBZ, sure. I'm still waiting for a proper DB game, AA was great, but there was too much content missing.
>>3219336
If it's content you're looking for, go play Super Gokuden 1.
>>3219356

>>3221394
All the changes are actually well documented online if you hunt around. It's one of the few NES carts I still have after largely switching over to Famicom collecting/playing.
>>3221523
Idk what it is but I just find it fascinating
>>3221562
Looking at the development of games is fascinating to me too anon. Hopefully you don't really care for the Sonic series, or you'll get sucked into the same black hole I have.

Does anyone else remember a shareware DOS Dragonball fighting game? The two characters in the shareware version were Goku and Piccolo.
I can't for the life of me find any info about it on the web, but I remember playing it as a kid.

>>3227330
It has to be either ultra obscure, a bootleg or nonexistant. I can't find shit about it either.
Has anyone here playedSupersonic Warriorson theGBA?
It's like butoden but a bit more refined.
>>3229136
he's saying to stop emoting like a faggot
>>3232331
Bitchin, definitely one of the best portable games bar none,I didn't quite like the LOG series.
What if sections were also fenomenal.
>>3232342I don't really get all the LOG love. Maybe i'm just not playing it right but I tried LOG two and got annihilated by any enemy encounter after the dream Freida boss at the beginning of the game.
Am I supposed to Ki spam? In which case that's gonna be a bitch because it's limited and I haven't found a charge button... And if I'm SUPPOSED to melee like i've been trying to then how? Unless there's a block button I'm unaware of you're guaranteed to get raped.
>>3232331
>It's butoden but a bit more refined.
Hell I'd call it the last butoden game made before they completely moved on to tenkaichi and budokai.
Atleast if the newest butoden for 3DS didn't happen. Would've been an equally okay end to the series either way.
>>3232331
I just looked it up and I can see similarities to the Butoden games, although also some things look different like no split screen and also the characters seem to be constantly flying. Makes me curious about how it plays. Will definitely try this one... was this the last 2D DBZ game until Extreme Butoden?
>>3232841
At least they had the decency to include the best Butoden as a downloadable title for pre-orders or something like that. The bad thing is that the whole BGM was changed and is not as good as the original.
>>3233826
It's basically butoden but constantly flying.
It isn't as bad as it sounds either the controls are tight and responsive. They are a bit jumpy feeling at first but once you realize what you're doing it becomes pretty natural.
>>3234086
Also I mean the movement when i say it may FEEL jumpy at first. the combat is tight and surprisingly responsive you just need to know how to control the movement and you're good.
>>3233826
MAKE SURE to go into options and set it to beginner.
The game may seem too easy at first but once you get to the later story mode fights YOU WILL SHIT BRICKS OF FURY at how hard it gets.
Like seriously it gets unfairly difficult around the Perfect Cell fight on Goku's story on the normal difficulty.
You can barely do shit to him and he dodges and blocks EVERY attack and spams ultimates as well.
Literally HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GIT GUD WHEN THE COMPUTER JUST LITERALLY WON'T LET YOU HIT HIM
it's pretty fun once you lower the difficulty though. but end fights are still balls bustingly hard, expect buu to rape you.
>>3232337
But I am a faggot, so it's appropriate
>>3227320
weren't the legacy of goku games not developed in the U.S though?
>>3235713
>Literally HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GIT GUD WHEN THE COMPUTER JUST LITERALLY WON'T LET YOU HIT HIM
Perfection anon, that's how.
>>3235738
They were developed in the US.
>>3232409
You just have to get good.
The combat system in two is really smooth and easy once you get the timing right.
I pretty much never use ki attacks unless I have to.
>>3236231
Also, I was 10 years old.
Are you just really bad at games or something?
How good are Super Gokuden 1 & 2? I've seen a few translated snes repros of them.
>>3237351
I have the 2nd game. Gameplay is a bit weird and I found it dull. I've read people online say they love it though, so maybe it didn't click with me, it seems like rock-paper-scissor during battles.
Between battles there's story segments with some trivia quiz and you have to select the correct answer, sometimes you get different battles depending on what you choose.
It's pretty much an interactive story game with weird RPG battles. It also has stats and I think it lets you customize it a bit.
All in all even though I didn't get the battle system, I found the presentation charming, and I loved the music

>>3241412
>Super
>GT
Anything post Buu saga ruins it for me.
>It even has fucking AF
It's shit.
>>3221394
I find it fascinating, too. I developed an interest in the DragonBall franchise in the late 90s (or very early 2000s) and I think it intrigued me that there was a videogame based on it released for my beloved childhood game console. I'm hoping some interesting prototype of the Japanese version still exists somewhere.
>>3237351
It has a weird but interesting battle system, follows the story well but it's text-heavy if that isn't your taste. II think it's really great if you're a fan od the series and it has some of the best music tracks Yamamoto did, I almost cried when I found out the arranged sountracks some years ago.
Just beware that the old fantranslations are really bad or incomplete, I remember Gokuden 1 translatiion was nice but it stopped midway though Piccolo Daimao's arc.
Anyone else has a huge nostalgia boner for this game? The soundtrack was amazing. Probably the most hyped Mega Drive game I ever bought.
Dragon Ball was a huge and strange phenomena in my shit country, with this and Legends getting an actual physical release. Probably thanks to France, it wasn't many years ago that I found out they actually got even the Butoden games and Hyper Dimension localized and released there.

Where are you from?
My huge nostalgia boner is for Super Butoden 2. Buyu Retsuden had the best roster in any DBZ game of that era though (until Shin Butoden and UB22).
The soundtrack gets posted a lot, but the tracks that actually get me nostalgia boners aren't the classic character themes, but these:

That second one is fucking ominous, I feared Cell the first time I faced him (this was also my first encounter at all with Cell when I was a kid). He wasn't that hard to beat though (at least on normal).
>>3227330
I think I know what you're talking about, but I think you're mistaken about the playable characters. I believe it was Goku and Krillan. The specific detail I remember about Goku was that he was bare foot and without his blue shirt, like when he removed the weighted clothes to fight Raditz.
>>3241829
>More content.
>Shit.
It's people like you that are killing the gaming industry.
>>3241412
Haha I played the HL1 mod with my brother over lan. Back before it had hand to hand combat so was just a weapons mod. Funnily enough, Krillin was OP, I'd just pick him and his destructio disc and manages to hit my brother 90% of the time, Insta-gibbing him. Hahahe would get so mad he'd hit me until I stopped.
Is also had a stupid generic techno/house sountrack I burned on CD I still have. Should give it a listen again, I enjoyed it when I was 13.
