Also, there is no center surround speaker for 7.1, only left and right surround and left rear and right rear surround.
I think it will output in 5.0 instead of 4.0 surround.

4.0 surround is front left/right + rear left/right, there's no center channel. Depending on how your receiver is configured, it could output unmodified 4.0, mix it up to 7.1, fail to recognize the Dolby Surround encoding and output stereo, or fail to recognize the Dolby Surround encoding and upmix the stereo to 7.1.
You may need to read the manual.

Many Rare games on N64 support Dolby 5.1. I looked into this and apparently they were able to put all the surround sound through separate signals in the left and right sound cables.
