Do you try to use an arcade stick for most 2D games? Or do you stick with a gamepad for consoles?

>Do you try to use an arcade stick for most 2D games?
I do, actually. Not for driving games tho, if you're counting those. Or for GC/Wii as I don't have one for those platforms. But otherwise, yes.
>>3202834
Does it really help for anything other than fighters? If something is designed with a gamepad in mind, I don't see why using an arcade stick would be better.
>>3202834
Of course I use an arcade stick. Have done since the 1 button days.
I only use sticks with shooters and fighting games.
I have been for a few years now. For classic gaming I'm mostly using a beat up TE stick I picked up on Craigslist and MC Cthulhu modded but I wish I had gone with a Hori. Fuck I miss my HRAP V3 SA, that stick was great.

I got a stick for fighters
Then realized I'm never really going to use it
Now I realize it's pretty nice for the likes of ghosts n goblins and shinobi as well -- shoot and jump don't have to share a thumb
Fun for pacman too
I just use the stock controllers, arcade stick seems like a gimmick + poorfag
>>3203782
>seems like a gimmick + poorfag
How so.
>>3203785
I already play muh vidya with the gamepads so i dont see the need to get arcade sticks. I might get pic related when i have extra money to spend on whatever
I use my keyboard
I have a Hori Fighting Stick Multi that I got for cheap. I love using it with shmups and the like.
Unfortunately, the reason I got it cheap was because it didn't have the additional cables for SNES/PCE. Much sadness, I'll never be able to find replacements.

I've been using my Mayflash Arcade Fightstick F300 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Collection on Steam. It's a very fun way to play.
>>3203996
Good call. It's best to try and master whatever you usually use, if you mainly use a pad you should stick with it.
There's an arcade like a half a mile from my house that has Capcom vs Snk 2, Marvel vs Capcom2, and 3rd Strike on Sega cabinets. So to save myself the $3 a day I'd spend there I made myself a multiconsole stick (on the right) with the same layout and parts as the Blast City cabinet. Got the black mayflash one as a guest controller.
I usually only use them for fighting games but I've been using the bottom one to play F-Zero since the stick isn't very 'clicky' and feels really good for SNES racers

Good job on the stick. It's a real beauty.
I exclusively use an arcade stick for any games that don't use an analog stick.
When I was trying to learn stick, I played through the entire Mega Man and X series on it. Shit felt so good that I never looked back.
I have all the old console/arcade emulators set up on my PS3, and I love using my Hori fighting stick mini to play them.

move the action buttons to insert, home, pg up/down, delete, and end. Then you got a real hitbox on the keyboard.
>>3202834
I should. Got a new stick, but haven't done much with it. It's useless for OutRun, and I forgot using it for BoF, though not sure if it's any good there. Still need to set up Rayman. That should be a good test for the stick
I started using stick and never looked back. Playing megaman games on stick was a very interesting but refreshing experience.
Was pretty common to play games on a NES Advantage at the time.
>>3206470
Hell games like Gyruss made the NES Advantage a nessesity.
>>3203804
Get the Jap version that one has microswitches
>>3205953
>playing Megaman/X with an Arcade Stick
You're a mad man
>>3206518
why?
>>3206519
How the fuck do you dashjump on Mega Man X with an arcade stick? Seems complicated
guy who has record in aria of sorrow uses a hitbox.
>>3202834
used to but only arcade games
now my hrap3sa is inside the wardrobe rotting

>>3206524
Pushing two buttons and holding a direction is complicated?
>>3206718
the fuck is this?
Looks like a dryer ball or some shit
>>3206772
Hori Joyball. Real dumb.
>>3206783
I lied it's called a JoyBall but it's not by Hori my bad.
>>3206783
>Joyball
Googled and came up with this Quickshot...thing...
Funny I don't remember drugs being quite so widespread in the 80s. Guess I must have had a pretty sheltered upbringing.
>>3206805
Ah, found it.
>trying to pull off a sick combo
>"I'm sorry Dave but I can't let you do that"
>>3206830
Made by HAL Labs too, weird.
>>3206805
I have that exact one except it's a different color. It is the single most horrible thing I've ever had to use.
>>3206718
sup RSI? nm u?
i use this sometimes 150 $ fight stick
>>3206830
This look insanely comfortable.
What systems was this released for?
Is it possible to buy a giant balltop to replace the regular one on my arcade stick and get something approximating this?
>>3207002
I think it was Famicom/NES only. They're pretty cheap on eBay.
>>3207142
Does it have microswitches?
>>3207189
I don't know for sure, but judging by the other Famicom accessories of the time it is highly unlikely. They would likely be far more expensive and sought after if so.
>>3202834
I find sticks are okay for most games outside arcade oriented genres and even driving games that don't have an emphasis on realism. Been using a vanilla HORI RAP v4 for at least a year which has both PS3 and PS4 support, both modes have drivers on Windows but I think it's only the R2 and L2 buttons that register differently which is good in case an emulator has analog trigger support or does not.
>>3202834
I received this as a gift. I had to buy a special receiver for it to get it running on my pc. How good is it? Is it battery powered only?
nah
