I wasn't sure exactly what it was that turned me off of old RPGs at first, but then after playing Dragon Quest 1 and finishing it vs playing Dragon Quest 3 and burning out I realized.
I fucking HATE fighting more than 1 enemy at a time.
Multiple enemies becomes a fucking slog. 1 enemy is the perfect number.
What are other RPGs that only have 1 enemy at a time besides DQ1?

I played the GBA medabots fighting game, been meaning to look into the RPG ones.
Started playing SMT 2 and I'm hooked. I'll check out Devil Children

Give Phantasy Star 1 a shot.
It technically has multiple enemies but only one type at a time so there's just one enemy graphic and a box on the right with some HP numbers if there's more than one. No dealing with separate groups like in DQ3.
