What is the absolute worst game that you've ever loved

Wow, that's a surprisingly hard question, I'm at a loss.

Maybe the old MMO Tibia.

Ah shit I forgot about Beyond the Beyond. I fucking loved this game when I was younger, though I always got stuck at the stupid sliding tile puzzle. I actually just replayed this game awhile ago and beat it.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Got it when I was 6 years old, fell in love with music and dungeon exploring. A 12 hour RPG seems much longer as a small kid.
>>
>>3192731
the only "worst" part about it was the penalties for dying and not having a real tutorial. you had to use yodaya from calmera's personal website to learn fucking anything at all back in the day. it was a bitch, no man's land free for all even on non-pvp worlds.
>>
>>3192741
Yeah me too. I don't know what it is about teeth-grindingly challenging turn-based RPGs that does it for me. Maybe I just enjoy tedium

Dunno about 2 but I played the crap out of 1. I remember it fondly. Don't know if I want to taint it by going back to it.

>>3192782

It's still a great adventure but the grind at the gym and the ridiculous digivolution standards really bring the experience down. It's nothing but fun after the initial slog though.

Double Switch. It's an FMV and a Night Trap rip off, but the cast is interesting and the story isn't bad.
>>
If by worst you mean subjective bad, Sonic Adventure 1/2.

If by worst you mean objectively bad (as in actually bad) maybe something more obscure like Monster Party.

Rising zan. Its wacky but feels wonky.

I loved Nightshade, I hear most people seemed to hate it / think it was too hard.

Given my circle of friends at the time, the fact that I loved Startropics was surprisingly polarizing and I figured everyone hated it until the internet showed me it was well loved after all.

I suppose atlantis no nazo, fucking garbage but I like it quite a bit.

Also I suppose jrpgs, they have admitably shallow gameplay but there are a few I like a lot. Despite that Earthbound is probably my favorite game ever made.

I have a love for old bad racing games, like f1 challenge for Saturn.

I also really liked decathlete

I love that game so goddamn much, and honestly, I think that if Squeenix wants to stick with the Action RPG thing, they should have a go at remaking this one and actually writing it well. It would also probably help make the nostalgiafags who whine about the lack of medieval elements in the series not be quite so salty.

Another one I loved was pic related. If I was working on a remake of it, I'd even see if I could convince Paul Sebastien and Daniel Lenz (those two pretty much WERE Psykosonik, the others who were there for the first album were pretty much just assistants for what they couldn't originally do live, although one of them did write a song or two) to compose the soundtrack. Paul would probably be the harder one to convince, considering that he's got a very, very successful business life that involves people hiring him to be their boss. Daniel Lenz does music still, I think.

I think everyone that likes that game even a little knows it's not a good game. I'm in the same boat, i only really like it for nostalgia and music
>>
This game right here. Loved and hated it all at the same time. So many times I'd end up losing my runes to some jack off guy I would try and recruit, who was super powered due to a glitch(?) of them gaining either more levels or stats in the US version compared to your character. Was pretty much a game over time to start a new game whenever it happened. I know my dad and brother beat it on separate files, but I honestly can't remember if I've ever beaten it myself w/o playing one of their saves
>>
>>3193203
As much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree. As an RPG they're incredibly shallow and the games are pretty much made to sell merchandise, at least after Red and Blue. But damn they're so fun and replayable.

A friend had it on Spectrum back in the day, I don't know if it was the exact same game as in the NES or what, but I distinctly recall him raging HARD at the water levels, we're talking red-faced/almost crying hard here. When AVGN video first came out it made me laugh so fucking much because of this reason.
I had it on Amstrad myself, and even though I didn't play it that much the bit I did didn't particularly strike me as bad, but I had little to no standars back then.

The OST, as most of japanese racing games, is pretty good also

the main frustrating thing is the small amount of time you are the beast, which is the funnest part of the game.

sometimes I don't get the last powerup, and then immediately get it after the boss decides he's too good for you

Man this game is weird to play now. The two(?) levels where you fly a ship have actually aged remarkably well and still feel nice and smooth to play.

Pretty much everything else about the game aged like milk, to the point where not even my nostalgia can make it seem enjoyable. the dianoga boss is still nightmare inducing though

The FPS sections probably aged like shit due to the bad controls and fog, but other than that what exactly is wrong with the game?

I forget, didn't they have it on Easiest when they got to Tattoo, or were they just playing it on Normal? Either way, there's no denying how big of donkey balls they were sucking at that game.

Another upside to a remake is that the bosses and such could be rewritten and given a bit more than a few sardonic lines before and after their fights.

Challenge of the Dragon for the NES. Super rare game but my friend has had a copy since he was a kid and we would always play it and get so mad. Recently I started speed running it and taking notes and it only takes me 15 minutes to beat and I'm so used to the slippery controls and the enemy movements. Play a game long enough and it becomes fun.
>>
>>3192725
What was Sega's goal in creating Altered Beast anyway? It doesn't really impress that much but it gets put into numerous compilations and even got a 3D version.

Was it to give the Genesis a graphically impressive launch title? It seems strange that Sega would put that much focus on a home console.

The game is great until the stupid subway part
>>
>>3195062
It keeps getting onto comps because it's an extremely popular game and Sega wants money
>>
>>3195062
It was an impressive arcade title for its time. Colourful with big sprites, and not many beat'em ups existed then.

It was also used to showcase the Megadrives power. Back in the 1988 launch party, they put the Megadrive version of the game next to the arcade cab so people can see how little differences there were between the two.

I don't know why it gets ported constantly. Probably because it is a small and simple game, so it is easy to re-re-re-re-re-release and make money off of with 0 effort, same reason why they ported Sonic into every goddamn platform in existence.
>>
The gaem we call life...
>>
>>3195110
The levels have areas you end up retreading. It doesn't have a map. The jumping is twice as difficult as a regular sonic game. The overall scenery and sprites aren't as great as a regular sonic game. The game doesn't explain the concept of collecting birds straight off. Good music mostly.
>>
>>3195062
Altered beast had impressive graphics / sound. It sold me on the console before sonic existed. One of the first fun two player games, kinda like Double Dragon with transforming characters.

More importantly there's basically no rolling physics. Which is to say they're there, but they have little real purpose, so the game just doesn't work like a sonic game should.

The third-person segments were fun until you got to some of the platforming heavy sections, like that canyon stage, or the junk yard train, and some of the bosses were cheap like IG-88, but as a kid I loved this game. >game is ugly as shit, has almost no music, and the save file takes up an entire VMU
>draw pictures to level up, this makes absolutely no sense but after a while you find a picture that gets you high stat increases so you just stick with that for the rest of the game
>all you do is grind for points to dump into the leveling system
>grinding is walking in circles until something appears and then using your one attack on it until it dies
>do this for five hours and then kill everything in 1 hit and walk right up to the final boss
>final boss can kill you in 2 hits even with 999 (maxed out) all stats

Wow, that's a hard question, I don't know if it's answerable.

The worst game I've bought was probably Corridor 7, which I got partly because it came with a gamepad, which happened to be acceptable, but the pair was not particularly cheap, so it was indeed bad.

I also had a boxed copy of Terminator Rampage, I guess that was pretty bad, especially for a game that I've played through mostly. Weird story with that, I played through all the 30 levels that were listed in the manual, but then by the time I got to level 32, I got it into my head that it would just go on forever and stopped ... when that was the final level.

PC version just got released on GOG. I had tried getting the PC version running a couple years ago but it uses a 16 bit exe for an installer and those dont work on regular winblows 7

I still haven't beaten it.

>Terminator Rampage

What was wrong with the game? Looks like an interesting Doom clone.
>>
>>3200149
Nah, you find a lot of weapons and the only time you really need hand-to-hand combat is at the very first enemy in level 1.
>>
>>3200492
It was repetitive. Even including the music.

(it sharply switched to this exaggeratedly dramatic tune even for common enemies)

This one.

I used to play a lot of Rampage World Tour for GBC even though you can really barely tell what's going on.

everything about the mechanics a character like sonic introduces worked against the whole top-down, exploration thing, it would've been a lot better if it starred knuckles or maybe even a slower, non-Sonic character entirely imo
>>
It's gotta be this shit. I even think some of the songs sound better than their 16-bit versions (Aircon Man's stage theme, Clock Men's stage theme, the fortress theme, Rockman Shadow battle, so on).

That game was good, though. Much better than 5-10. Couldn't handle the difficulty or something?
>>
>>3203180
Oh wait, thought you posted the SNES game. Disregard
>>
Betrayal in Antara (I can't even beat it it glitches so badly), Bubsy, FFMQ, Spiderman 2 for gameboy, Mario is Missing are some of the utterly awful games I can think of that I can still go back and have fun playing for some godforsaken nostalgia-goggles reason.

I had more but I can't think of them. I had shit taste as a child.

I played this on the DS.
I quit it ages ago and I can't remember anything about it except for the colourful and happy graphics/music so I don't know if I should pick it up again.

Looking up just the first 10 minutes of the game...what the fuck?

I love the music and presentation of that screen with the DNA spinning around. Feels very cyber-zen, similar to Eastern Mind/LSD.

Pic related in response to the thread tho. Slow, clunky and unresponsive but you could do 20 metre high backflips and I frothed off that.

Don't look at me. I like racing games and Nascar

Don't get the hate for it, this game is legitimately decent.

I know I played the hell out of Shadows of the Empire, but I haven't been able to figure out how.

Damn that had potential to be decent too

Goddamn I loved this game, but the execution was so lackluster.

I remember local game magazine Power Unlimited giving it two scores instead of one at the time, a 9.2 for the flying sections and a 5.9 for the rest. Seems rather accurate in depicting the overall opinion on this.

Pic related and Rampage. It's mostly nostalgia from the games' art styles: In an era before Pixar, 3D artists looked to claymation as a guide for cartoony 3D.

This one OP.
I played this game over and over when i was younger.
Only found out it was trash when i got twenty year's older.

I like it, but for the exploration. I think open roaming is sorely lacking on Sonic games,n wish they had taken from Sonic 3 more instead of going for the linear speedfests.

Aww man, demo discs were like christmas come early when I was a kid. Just the other day I was pondering what was the name of that 3D space station demo disc and there it is. Thanks, that brought back a lot of memories!
