I wanna get back into Dungeon Keeper but I can't decide between 1 or 2. Advice??
Neither one work on Windows 7, 8, or 10, and have glaring compatibility issues.

First one is definitely the best by far. Too bad it is impossible to play multiplayer of it today. I'd suggest you to play the deeper dungeons expansion as well.

DK1 works fine on dosbox.
I think the GOG version of DK2 works on modern Windows but I haven't tried it. The retail version of DK2 I have never worked well on Vista or 7 without crashing regularly but is playable on my 8.1 laptop, albeit with the occasional graphical glitch as most games of that time tend to have.
It's not like 2 is bad, but it is a massive disappointment after 1 being so great.

They're both fun, and both worth getting back into. I like DK1 more - it just has dat magic, and it's more sandboxy. Saying that, there's more variety in DK2 - there's more of a story to the levels, and they're staggered so there's less of a 'just drop all of your minions at once' end-game, as in most of DK1.

I sort of agree, though not as much. I would definitely go for 1. DKII is fine, gameplay wise, it does some things better and some things worse, I'd say it's about as good, but the charm of the original isn't there.

I, for one, really enjoy the looks of DK2, especially the way corridors are twisted, and I also like the models. Though to be frank DK1 wins any day of the week. It is the superior game.
